Google Pixel and Pixel XL

Funny that people that don't own the phone are the ones that criticize it.

I've had mine since day one and so far I'm loving it.

Not really...

Yea, I was expecting some judder but the fuzzy quality is never 4k in a million years. Look how fuzzy the back of the chair gets. Also, in the previous video you can see the zoom going a bit mad on the stairs.

I actually noticed this last night when I took a video of my two year old running around singing... It's like watching a live stream from 2001.

I'll be kicking off a refund request shortly.

My first thought on watching the video is - this is a poor workman blaming his tools. A number of days on and my opinion hasn't changed - sorry.

The back of the chair is going fuzzy because you are standing too close to a big dark area with no contrast so the camera has nothing to focus on. It's more noticeable because the Pixel probably has a bigger sensor and a wider aperture than your last phone, so anything out of focus will be more pronounced. It's also boosting the ISO to expose for the black of the chair, but you can see it's overexposing the chair which explains the reason why the quality is so poor. In your other video it looks like the focus is hunting again, might be worth playing with the AF settings to find something that works.

If they can work out the panning issue, which I think they will, it has potential to be ridiculously good stabilisation.

I get judder with OIS when panning with a Sony A6000, so it's not a problem unique to this phone anyway.

Anyone having any wakelock issues, my GFs device is perfect but on mine Google Services is awake 100% of the time. We both have google assistant, and I've disabled the 'ok google' feature today so its not always listening. Can't think of anything else that would cause this issue.

I'm more than comfortable to be criticised for the video, if indeed the quality is down to my use of the camera. I'm not claiming to be an expert, which is why I posted the video here to get an opinion from others before I RMA'd the phone. So yeah, ignoring the footage was really helpful thanks for that!

I've still to see an example of good 4k video footage from a Pixel phone.

I believe we gave you plenty of feedback on how not to test the camera, which I guess you ignored.

We ignored the footage as anything viable to assess due to the terrible way and conditions it was filmed in.

You could take on board some of the feedback and upload something else... you have decided not to it would appear.

Andy, I RMA'd the phone on Friday and it's on it's way to Germany so I can't test any further. I only had 7 days to test the phone within my return period because I've just arrived offshore for a 3 week trip so would have no opportunity to RMA for the remainder of my return period. This is why I went to the trouble of posting videos and asking for opinions... I was struggling for time and unsure if the phone was genuinely faulty.

Anyway, it's done now. I might actually order another Pixel if/when a software update is proved to have resolved the judder issues with the video capture facility. I am happy to pay £700 for a quality product, and I did put my money where my mouth is...

... but whilst I thought it was a cracking phone and ticked most of the boxes for me, I remain unconvinced that the 4K or HD quality of the video is up to scratch. I bought direct from Google so that I would have the opportunity to get all my money refunded if I wasn't 100% happy with the phone, and that's what I did.

Well I hate it, complete garbage ..... I don't own one :D

Kind of how it goes on forums but everyone has an opinion and generally don't hold back be it fiction of fact

My GF has been recording a lot of video and it looks amazing, is this issue only on some cameras? Its mostly in door so I guess that avoids the lens flair issues.

i've not heard the lens flare being present when recording a video, it may do but i've not heard it. i've heard of the juddering when moving about while recording a video, and the lends flare when taking a photo.
