Google shows off Android 3.0 - the 'Entirely for Tablet' Honeycomb

got a friend going over to the states in May, whats the best thing she can pick up over there tab/pad wise ?

also a general Q

if you bought a wifi only tab could you add a 3g dongle to it and use it ? sorry possibly a very dumb Q but I know nothing about em at all

iPad 2 or Motorola Xoom.

To answer your 2nd question, afaik you cant add a dongle. You either choose 3g+Wifi or just the wifi version (depending on the device you choose)

Depending on what phone you have it could be possible to tether the tablet onto your phones 3G connection.

I played with a Xoom today. Its one of a few tablets we got in (Xoom, Playbook, Samsung Tab and Toshiba jobby).

5 second review...

Honeycomb is quite nice, very responsive. The large shiny glass gets smudged so easily I can picture needing to carry round a cloth just to use it. The device is well made, IMO its not too heavy.

One thing that bothered me is the screen res/aspect ratio - which I think is a standard size for honeycomb unfortunately. I felt it was just too thin for good portrait use, I was constantly side scrolling when browsing even basic websites and I think when reading a book its will feel a little weird.

Other than those tiny niggles it was a pleasure to use, quality fast device.

As we know the preorder price to be at 599 pounds, would that justify the pen input availability or there is something else thats special about the Flyer?

Really there is only the pen as a selling point. It has a single core processor as opposed to a dual core on other tablets and it only has Gingerbread and not Honeycomb. They’ve priced it as a “large” Smartphone and at that price I can’t see it competing with other tablets.

well thats a bummer for a tablet that isnt getting released around now. Mind you, this pen thing has the potential to be huge as it finally may add something to turn the tablet into a physical notebook but Im personally always careful with the first device to carry new piece of technology(as they may not be polished yet).

^ I like the look of the Lenovo ThinkPad "Think Slate" (Transformer type device designed for the Enterprise market)

Anyone using the ASUS transformer? And what do you think of it.

Yes I'm using one, love it, wifi version 16gb, put a 16gb sd-card in it to take it up to 32gb, works really well.

It tethers to my desire hd flawlessly, no problems using transformer on the move.

I have paid Asus direct for the keyboard, should be here mid-may time from what I hear.

Honeycomb is nice, some apps force close, or the orientation is wrong as most apps have not been optimized for honeycomb, that's what I have been hearing, so some work is to be done to get some nice tablet apps developed.

Interesting dual screen clam design, the screens look good too, OLED? :)

Shame it's tegra 2, fine for a £200-£400 tablet but the more expensive ones need faster SoCs :( (NGP is still the one for me :p)

~Thread revival~

The first Honeycomb tablet running a dual core snapdragon. (more powerful than tegra 2)

(Would link to the Intel based tablets but they suck big time :p)
