Gordon Brown's first mistake ?

economic growth is long term - we will see *** effects of browns policy ten years from now. it can be argued that John Majors government put the pieces in place which facilitated the growth we see today.

it's artificially inflated, due to increased levels of public spending and the huge numbers of people that employees. It might look good, but it only sets it up for a big fall.

The public pay for those few 100,000 jobs created and when the economy falls they wont be paid.

As above economy is much more long term, we will judge Brown in 10 or so years.

Yes it could be argued that way too. Do you credit him with anything? :)

To the OP

I think you just may be jealous that your next primeminister will be another Scot.

Your ignorance is shining though like just fine. :)

I do not care what Nation my Prime Minister comes from as long as he does a good job. Gordon Brown in my opinion is currently the best man for the job.

Your point is moot.

A typo is not an indication of ignorance. :)

Even then the home countries are only countries in the cultural sense, not really in the political sense. Yes I know there is a Scottish parliament, but there are plenty of countries that have regional governments with similar powers to the Scottish parliament (in many cases even more powers).

You appear to be correct although the issue is understood to be confusing and contentious. I have never understood it that way before. Seems to absolve Gordon of any wrongdoing and added to my education. :)

His mistake is being Scottish? So as the leader of this nation, the UK, he should address everyone in it as different from himself? Get a grip and find something substantial to moan about.

How do you construe my post that only asks questions as moaning ?

I made no comment that I was unhappy with his statement. I just questioned its accuracy.

Am I being pedantic here or is Gordon Brown's country not Scotland?

Is it appropriate for him as a Scott to continually refer to country when he means Great Britain & Northern Ireland? Or does he ?

Why is this an issue with you now all of a sudden with Gordon?

Your PM for the last decade was born in Edinburgh.

Your ignorance of the democracy and Union in this country is outstanding.

This is for you..

So we now have a man dictating domestic policy in England and Wales (although he has been tacitally for years) despite the fact he has no say on that policy in his own constituency. Thats what I call democracy.

Thank you I have always wanted a Blue Peter badge. :)

When I questioned the use of the word county in a particular context, I was not expecting the Spanish Inquisition. :) This has now been suitably answered elsewhere in the thread.

What statement have I made with regard to democracy to display ignorance ?

As posted elsewhere in the thread I have no problem with Gordon Brown.

The word pedantic does not begin to describe the ignorance and stupidity of such a question. He will govern the country/nation of the United Kingdom.

Is this not Tory hypocrisy when one considers how John Major became Prime Minister?

Yes this is Tory hypocrisy. That's how the system works; you elect a government and not an individual.

The United Kingdom is not a country. England, Scotland and Wales are countries.

Perhaps democracy is not the correct term. The 'constitutional' make-up of this country if you will...

Edit: However I do agree that the torys are as bad as labour with regards to the hamshanking of both JM and GB into office.
