GordyR's Beginners Guide to Bodybuilding

Ask A2Z :p, I was saying why you shouldn't.
Wasn't aimed directly at you, just the general conversation :)
I think the soy controversy has now been disproved. It's been shown that bodybuilders using soy protein had almost identical average gains compared to ones using whey/etc.
Really? I'd like to see it please :)
How thick are your slices??! Mans slice i presume?
lol, that's what I thought :D I thought bread averages around 100kcals a slice.
I just had a can of sprite. Didn't notice its 10.6g of carbs which are all sugars until after I was half way through it.

I would guess fizzy drinks are a big no no?

edit: what about chewing gum, i usually eat about 2-3 sticks of chewing gum per day. Wrigleys spearmint.
Fizzy drinks are a HUGE no no.

As for wrigleys, why on earth would you want to chew sugar into your teeth?? Get some sugar-free.

For fat burning, dropping body fat what would be a good thing to do in the morning. From now on every Monday I will get up early and do cardio before breakfast, how long should I do it for? im not doing any weights that day either. So what should I do? and how long for? whats best for burning the body fat.

I was talking with a uni mate of mine yesterday and he told me he used maximuscle now I was sure I read on here a while ago that it wasn't no good.

He pays £20 for a 1KG tub, rip off imo. I tried to convince him but he would have none of it, his personal trainer and others have convinced him that maximuscle is "the best"..

He then went on about how squats are bad for the knees and told me to read up on it and finally he told me to use the leg press machine at the gym.

About the squats, surely there's nothing wrong with them if you have proper form?

Also just how effective is the smith machine for squats, I use free weights however he claimed to have done 160KG on the smith machine. He's quite skinny tbh so am unsure about his claim.

The world's full of these buffoons, leave them to it to it I say :D

This is the excuse pansies who don't like the pain of squatting come up with ;)

Smith machine is very bad for everything imho and should not be used. Free weights are far superior and safer.

Sorry to be a pain CW but I have a couple of more questions about nutrition.

1) egg yolks, I've heard these are bad for cholesterol. I have 2 everyday along with 3 wholemeal toasts and a glass of milk for breakfast(a protein shake half n hour before). Would any of the above be a problem? Someone gave me horror stories about a guy in the army who used to eat 5 eggs a day and one day suffered a heart attack and died..

2) On the subject of fizzy drinks, I would guess energy drinks would also count towards this? In the fridge I have a bottle of boost (rip off of red bull) and it says 10.9g carbs per 100ml of which all are sugar. I guess give it to the sister?

3) About rice, would white rice be as affective as brown rice?

4) Last q. wholemeal bread, I eat 3 slices in the morning for breakfast and if there's nothing good for dinner I sometimes eat a few slices. I thought this was fine but have read a couple of posts about it being not so good. Bread is a big part of my diet and would be hard to replace. I eat some cheap wholemeal brand, 92 calories per slice and 1.1g per fat (0.04 being saturated fat). It's not that bad is it?

LMAO :)

Dietry cholesterol has almost zero effect on your own levels. It's a myth that cholesterol is bad for you, it's actually VERY good for you, infact it's absolutely essential. So much so that if you don't eat any your body makes loads of its own. So can someone please tell me the logic behind dietry cholesterol being bad for you?

I eat at least 6 eggs a day, sometimes more and have done for years. I'm still here :D

Give it to someone you don't like...

No. Avoid most things that are white, they're garbage. Rice, bread, pasta...

Not the end of the world, don't sweat it.

OH and fat IS NOT bad for you. Most are very healthy, some, like trans-fats are practically lethal.

Quick question, for example Whey, would it pile weight/fat on if you took it but didn't exercise, nothing to do with me just a question, curious that's all. Cheers.

Consider it the same as eating other food but not exercising.

Here's the stats for the whey I use:

That's the thing with this hobby. When life becomes unsettled things tend to go out the window very quckly, diet especially! Sure you'll be back soon, chin up mate.... both of 'em ;):D
