Hey there,

I've been looking at the Logitech Z5500, i was about to buy a set but im just looking to see if theres anything else i should take a look at in the same range.

They will be used for gaming, music, movies, TV and pretty much everything, can i plug my computer, dvd player, ps2, and freeview/tv in them or?

Would you recommend the z5500 or any other sets?

Thanks, Carl

Edit: I have a hercules digifire 7.1 soundcard.

Been looking at loud speakers/amp.

Any care to give me a general overview of what my options are?

Thanks

Have you thought about whether you *really* need surround sound?

Naturally, if you just buy 2 speakers and amplification you get far far better quality than if you buy 5 speakers and a sub and amplification...

What's your top priority?
What kind of music do you listen to?

Personally, if I were putting together a PC sound system from scratch for £200 or under, I'd get the Sonic Super T Amp and some decent bookshelf speakers (audition a few different ones - it's a very personal choice).

Thanks mate.

My top priority is probaly loud clear sounding music with good bass, the next priority is gaming. Other than that it will be used for my TV which includes, PS2, DVD player and Freeview.

Ive got more than £200 to spend but i was going to buy the Z5500 system but soon relised this may not be my best option. My room is 4m x 6m.

Im currently running a 2 channel system consisting of a standard 2 channel amp and 2 Aiwa SX Z-9500 which are big floor standing 3 speakers. There very loud.

The Sonic Super T Amp is quite groovy. I just dont know. Another 2 channel system probaly wouldnt give me a buzz?

What you think?

I think if you compare a new, quality stereo hi-fi system to your current system (Aiwa speakers :o) then you will be surprised.

If surround is important to you, you could go for an AV amp but be aware that stereo music from an AV amp isn't spectacular.

You can easily get good quality ex-demo or second hand Hi-Fi seperates for that - stereo integrated amplifier and standmount/bookshelf speakers. Something from Rotel or NAD. Bottom of the range amps will be more than suitable, and probably sound better than that Sonic T-amp, and have more inputs and better build quality. I use a Rotel 980 with B&W 601's.

Im tellin u now if u get the Logitech Z5500's you will not be disappointed. The sub is unbeliable and the sat's r crystal clear!

Matt.

TBH even my cheap-ish bookshelf setup from Richer Sounds (8" sub, bookshelf speakers and amp for about £250) sounds infinitely better than the higher end computer sound setups. Those things are all subwoofer and no mid-range, not good for music.

I own both the NAD 3020i and a Sonic Super-T, and I would say that the Super-T sounds a fair bit better on my Wharfedale Diamond Pro's. Build quality is good on the Super-T (don't know about the regular T). It has a nice brushed aluminum case and is nice and simple. The only downside is it suffers from 'blinding blue LED' syndrome. Gaffer tape to the rescue!

Naturally it's not as loud as a regular similarly priced budget amp, and something from NAD would sound excellent I'm sure.

But if you like clarity and detail at low volumes the Super-T is really rather amazing for the money :)

Here's a review of the regular T (the Super has a much nicer case and comes with a power adapter so it can be run from mains):

im sorry pal, the mid's on the logitechs r very nice, the sub doesnt hav to be overpowering depend what you want, if u a trance lover you gonna love em if u like clear gentle stuff still a awesome set they do handle most music very well!

Matt.

I very much doubt speakers in a small cabinet, small driver can provide similar midrange to bookshelf/standmount speakers.

For gaming PC speakers are fine, but not for music.

What are you comparing the logitechs to?

I mean - have owned or listened to any high end hi-fi systems before?

logitechs are great for action movies and games but hi-fidelity they aint, the subs are too overpowering and loose.

dont agree wholly with daz that surround amps are'nt good with music, i have a sony tava8es amp coupled with mission 780se on atacama stands which sounds fantastic with music, although it was there flagship amp and cost £700 when new (setups currently in MM)

Spend £700 on a stereo amp and it will be better than an AV amp for music for the same price...

He's right. Or spend £300 on a stereo integrated amplifier and it'll blow away a £700 av amplifer.

Ahh the age old argument.

It's fact that a proper set of speakers and a decent amp will always be better for music than overpriced computer speaker tat.

Ok. :)

Very true. Wrong about the logitechs being overpriced though.

How can a set of 200quid decent speaker setup with a decent amount of inputs (which go well used) be overpriced, when a "cheapish" alternative is nearing 50% more expensive?

Threads like this annoy me, ok a guy menstion about200+quid budget, and people here always push it a bit futher, "ooo 300quid, oo700quid. ooo my setup gost 12k and its awesome if i were you i wouldnt go for anything less!" :/

sorry, im in a mood :(

The logi's sound pretty nifty with an xfi though :) plenty enough for me
