GOT A JOB INTERVIEW AT TESCO NEED help FORUM!

I got a job from just wearing shoes, trousers, white shirt and black top.

I think people seem to forget appearance isn't everything an employer looks for. Looking smart and proving you're worth the time is what counts.

This whole debate is ludicrous.

Put yourself in the position of the interviewer.... (doesnt matter who for)

Someone turns up in a suit, and the other one doesnt... Who to you looks like they want the job more?

As for a University interview... lol, thats not a JOB is it?! Its just a quick check to make sure you arent a total retard or dosser that will take them for a ride and drop out in the 1st two days.

I wonder if the people advising against a suit are the same ones that use phrases like "**** the system maaan" and have tattoo "sleeves" and holes in their ears?

Alton Towers when I was 16 - Suit. I felt an idiot as I was majorly overdressed. I really felt out of place.
Maccy D's when I was 17- Wore whatever I had on (vile job btw).
Tesco when I was 17- I just went in what I was wearing Got the job and worked at 7 different stores in my time with the company! Awesome student job - Good pay and can transfer stores for University.

Just look smart. I mean don't look like you haven't showered for a week (I realise I said look, not smell). Don't wear clothes that make you look like you live under a bridge. Just look.....presentable. This is not the type of job you need a suit for!
No doubt you will be in the interview with people who look a real mess (some, not all). You need to come across like you are worth the job, not a WOW player who has problems with speaking to people :p.

just go dressed smartly. shoes trousers, shirt and tie . i went to my Tesco interview with shoes trousers and polo top. wore them playing golf that day as well lol.

that was for a night placement though.

they might ask you some question like "you've been working at Tesco for a few weeks and you have become dejected and your attention is tending to wonder. what do you do.

When they ask you, "Don't you have a suit?", punch him / her in the chops. They'll appreciate your candidness and the job will be yours.

Reason: I'm interested in the retail industry. I enjoy a customer facing role and having the opportunity to provide excellent customer service with my outgoing and friendly personality. I enjoy working as part of a team to achieve targets and motivated in exceeding expectations.

ACtually u know what?

THe OP never actually stated what the job was. Everyone just assumed shelf monkey.

Would be hilarious if he was actually going for an area manager job and turned up in jeans and reebok classics.

This is obviously unfortunatlely unlikely though, but doesnt make it the right thing to do to NOT wear a suit.

Wearing a suit can NEVER hurt can it?

Does anyone seriously think an employer is going to think "no way we are employing this chap, he made far too much effort and was dressed too smart"

if he was going for a senior role he wouldnt be asking what to wear on an internet forum

You should wear clothes one level of smartness above what you expected to wear whilst working ie. tescos uniform is bland trousers and polo so wear nice trousers and collared shirt. A suit is extreme for a shop floor position even more so if it looks the same as the one you would use for your grans funeral or your first court appearance.

I have hired over 40 people in my retail role and none wore a suit, has little or no bearing on their potential ability as an employee.

I've pointed this out various times in similar threads before, but suit isn't always the best. I remember one pub manager I worked for immediately dismissing anyone who turned up in a suit for being overdressed and just not the type of person they were looking for.

Yes, this isn't for a pub job, but "suit = right" isn't always...er, right.

That said, I'd definitely lie about your motivations for wanting to work there :p

shirt and tie would be fine

thats not the key to this interview though. it may well be a group interview but even if it isn't the same apples (except you won't be seeing the people you are beating !)

ACT CONFIDENT. even if you aren't or your nervous just act it. get involved in anything they do . put your points across clearly and don't be embarrassed ! if you don't get the job you will never see those people in that room again. if you do get the job you will realise everyone else who got it was acting that way too and are definitely not that way all of the time.

if its your first job the biggest killer will be trying to explain how your suitable. make things up if you have too. especially about working in a team. could be a sports team or even a school/college project

you could probably google and find someone who's just done a tesco interview and have shared the questions. i imagine they do everything off a sheet
