Got My LG 55" OLED B6V yesterday and installed OHHH WOW

Didn't panny drop support for its os on its tvs though, which means if you buy one now the underlying smart os is unsupported from the moment you use it?

Well that's news to me, the Panasonic tv I'm getting works perfectly well with the smart functions it has.

I read that the 65" OLED that Panasonic released last yr for about £8k doesn't have the smart tv functions.

I'd be interested in seeing the article where it says that the smart functions on the Panasonic tv's no longer works soon as you buy it. Or was it a salesman telling you that rubbish??

To me it sounds like a lot of rubbish.

Im not blaming you at all but that is just completely laughable

22 people taking part - how pathetic, there is nothing at all meaningful in such a small sample

Only slight problem is that Panny are reported to not be making any more OLED 's for the time being, and the small amount currently available are actually ex-demo /display models

The 902's are comparable to the KS9000 from what I hear

I've read Panasonic will be making OLED screens come next year, they had a few prototypes at IfA from what I read and are looking at next year to make their first into OLED screens. I imagine if they do then it will not be cheap by any means.

The next season 2017 panasonics will apparently still be LG panels - the A+++ off of the production line ? together with the auto-calibration technique I had ref'd to clean up the oled low grey level issue.

I think you were thinking about the demise of the Android TV used by Sony, so their users are out in the cold, versus Panasonic continuing with Firefox OS.
The USA seem to have a roku tv,but they are not in bed with a premium panel manufacturer otherwise that might be a reliable solution (albeit roku 4 that never got to europe seems abandoned for newer premier/ultra models)

I picked up the 55"C6V today and wow is it beautiful :D

You tried the 3D yet?

Stunning is not the word.

Also am binge watching the Expanse on netflix in normal HD. The space scenes are mouthwatering. All sci fi fans need Oled in their lives.

Also I raised this up on AVfourms and others seem to agree. Your picture will improve over time.

If report is true then fantastic , but it does seem a little strange as it either wont be their 1st (given they released one based on an LG OLED panel late last year / earlier this year) and Panasonic dont have their own OLED fab plant - the only other way it could be a "first".

Either way I hope they continue, it was very expensive (same price as LG's give or take , at the time) but seemingly worth the extra outlay given the additional electronics running the panel etc

You may be right, although I did read that Mozilla have stopped developing Firefox OS, which is what Panasonic uses?

I hadnt heard this, but totally correct it seems Mozilla has stopped development of Firefox in general but all is not lost

As Firefox is open source, Panasonic themselves COULD (they may of course not choose to) continue the developement themselves. The rendering engine for Firefox - Gecko - will still be developed by Mozilla but its upto anyone else who choses to to include this in any updates.

Gravity, Avatar, Prometheus, Dread and nearly all Animation.

I have always liked 3D but eye strain and lightning conditions needed for active was off putting.

I have started to buy a lot of 3D titles on the cheap.

If a development house like Mozilla sees it as too big a drain on resources for too little return, I can't really see Panasonic wanting to spend lots of time/money invested into it either myself.

Thats the whole point, from Pana's point of view they can make it a "closed " system for their purposes , they dont have to support everyone else using it.

Costs would come way down

Also consider that they are already partly invested in it, so it may be cheaper for them to carry on than to invest in a totally different OS / build their own from scratch.

The OS on their smartish (iplayer/netflix) ub900 uhd player, inconsistantly, does not appear to be Firefox (or viera cast) so maybe they can deploy that to their tv's ; there seems little information on the mpu cores used in tv versus standalone tv boxes, but must be ARM inside helping portability ?
As reddit suggested maybe will have some better deals on their 700-902 range (demise needs more publicity)
