Government is talking about upping car tax upto £140 this year

Surely if they do this it would be political suicide in a election year?

If they do it my little 998cc Ford B-Max will go from £35 a year to a whopping £190 a year. Why increase the lower emission cars yet lower the high emission cars by having a flat rate of £190? It doesn't make any sense.

Happy new year :rolleyes::(

Across the board this will be, from April 1st

As i have said, it's not official yet (but it will most likely happen)

I know the papers like to sensationalise stuff but did you even read your own link.

So rather than it going up random amounts every so often it's now linked to RPI.

Just tax people more when they don't have any spare cash, due to fuel costs with the huge amounts of tax on top. What could go wrong

Am I right in thinking they’re standardising the years? So at the moment there’s a difference to cars pre 2017 and they’re scrapping that?

E; ignore me, no there’s two tables I can’t find on the gov website

as long as they dont put my car from £290 to over £430 !
Yours is in the 166 to 175 band, so according to your link, will be £305 next year.

This bump happens every year - I used to notice it on my last car because the tax renewed as the rates updated in April, so every year the actual renewal was £10 or so more than the letter they'd sent the month before.
