GP4 or F1 Challenge

care to explain please? I saw the LOD setting, but haven't played with it yet...
Ah ha! A willing victim.

Nah only kidding. Download http://www.realgpx.com/accueil.php?pages=teameditor&menu=tools Team Editor. There is an option to force lod0 for the carshapes, helmets and front/rear tyres.

GP4 has several level of details. The idea is that lod0 (the best) is used for up close and the further away the object is the computer uses lod1 to lod4 to reduce the load on the processor. However you can notice the detail of the objects decreasing and on powerful systems you can get away with just using the lod0 objects. So you set GP4 to use only lod0 and you get the same level of details in the objects no matter how far away the objects are. You can also then remove all the .gp4 files that aren't lod0. This has the handy result of decreasing the size of the cars.wad meaning the game loads quicker. ;)

Got all the files installed without a problem but as soon as i go to play it the game starts to load and then minimizes to the task bar , i click it to maximize then i get a error , if i try to load the game from GP4 instead of CSM i get GP4.EXE has encountered a error , was playing this last weekend on the other pc we have .

Ah weird. I remember having similar problems with GP4 but I can't remember how I fixed it. Its been ages you see.

Let me have a look on GPG and see if I can find anything out for you.

Aaargh!

Just tried to install the track updates.

It's all gone horribly wrong. It won't install half the .wad files for the tracks, and now the mods are screwed as well.
When I try to run the 07 mod, I get pics of the 07 drivers, listed against the 06 teams (eg, pick M Schumacher/Ferrari, it shows Alonso's pic! Barrichello apparently is some guy that looks an awful lot like Hamilton...)
When I try a track, I now have lots of sky, and no circuit (driving on fresh air) no pit garages, walls, trees, crowds, etc etc.

:(

Dunno what's happening now, but the original came is running ok, but the 07 mod has some issues, and a lot of textures are missing (pit wall crew, gravel trap, to name but two.)
Still got the issues with all teams having the same steering wheel too.

Think I might uninstall and reinstall the mods and tracks, see what happens!

think mine is a issue with drivers or something i managed to get into the game but as soon as i change the res from 640x 480 the game crashes , also i am getting tiger woods 2008 doing the same - load game - screen goes black and then minimizes to task bar , think i will turn the pc off before i do something i regret .

not sure about vista but the install of gp4 and mods can and do go wrong some times the best bet is to bkup your org install before going with the mods but when it works it awsome touch wood mines great at the moment full mods plus full detail rips a good un.
remember it is common for this to happen just keep trying and when you have the sweet spot leave well alone.
one thing i noticed is i had car mods on first with no tracks and ran kinda ok ish but once i put the 2006 track pack on it run a lot better for some reason.

use the track pack first before the single track updates for sure.

Well I don't get it, I wiped then reinstalled the mods and trackpacks etc, but still get the inside of the pit garages and the pit wall crew as just plain grey - no colours/textures at all.

Getting a couple of white boxes as well, but I've seen other people with that so hopefully I'll be able to sort that one.

Anyone else having trouble with missing textures?

Also, what should the 2007 Japanese GP be - Suzuka or Fuji? It says Fuji on the mod, but loads Suzuka ingame.

It does take a while to make new tracks for GP4. Its only been quite recent that people have been able to change the current tracks in GP4 and make them look good.

I would be surprised if someone had made a Fuji track already. After the Fuji GP the work can probably begin in earnest. I think the GP4 mods used to use the A1 Ring circuit for Bahrain and just added load of sand textures. So what you are seeing will be the Suzuka track being used as its the only one available but under the name of the Fuji GP.
