GPU for £370 or less?? Help!

At 1440p it would have to be the gtx1070.

The other thing I would be thinking about is a sync monitor which I would say is a must if your buying now. What's your budget for a monitor? Amd Freesync monitors are usually cheaper than there Nvidia gsync equivalents so take that into your budgeting.

Amd don't have an answer to the gtx1070 until next year most likely.

"If you can't afford a GTX1070 and a 1440P display then that is unfortunate, but it is of no relevance whatsoever! "

I could easily afford dual high end cards. That's not the point. I've gone down spending lots of money on PC's. Get a good PC but don't chase the high end/mega high resolution, as that requires far more expensive hardware. Plus at those resolutions you won't be able to max out and you'll need to upgrade GPU far quicker. Use a more acceptable resolution/monitor, max out your games now and your GPU will last far longer.

If you get 60fps at 1440p now how long before you get 30fps? What about if you get 150fps at 1080p it'll be ages before that drops to 30fps..

So your solution is to start with something which can't comfortably push QHD or UHD resolutions in the first place? Why settle for a sub-par experience when you can afford better and it is a keen interest?

Give me strength... :p

Stop.

I'd have got the 1070 over this RX 480 if I didn't a) have a brother to sell it to after b) have a freesync monitor

1070 for sure

What have I started? haha.

well thanks for all the replies.
I guess the option would be the GTX 1070 and just get a 1080p monitor.

Chances are, by the time I purchase the GPU, which will be the last item to buy.... there will be something new. I am planning to start my build in early October, and I can see it being finalised in late December/ early January.

Also, I have decided on my case for anyone interested. The termaltake X71. It looks to be the most customisable and water cool friendly, at a decent price. It might be overkill and a little too large at the moment with only air cooling. But 6 months down the line I plan to start a custom loop, so it makes sense to get the case now :)

Ok... just looked up reviews of the GTX 1070 Founders Edition. Its £399 but I can stretch to that, and I can take advantage of the free PSU offer that was linked earlier!

**EDIT**

Yep... stretching the budget to the GTX 1070 FE.... Several reviews are consistently rating it in the top 5. Baseline results show it is more than capable of 1440p with an average of 70fps... And even if I have to drop it to 1080p for some more intense games... then I'll still be happy.

I wont need more than that!

1070

Why?

+1

Certainly not a 980ti and AMD do not have anything to offer at the moment.

Both brands have entered a phase of releasing a new generation of cards with a long overdue (in our minds) die shrink that offers advantages over the 28nm ranges, The new architecture also has it's advantages so in my opinion buying any 28nm card today is the wrong decision, both brands have the low end covered and Nvidia had the mid to high end covered so there's a new option available to everyone, don't buy old tech. Get a 1070.

Yeah I am settled on the 1070 FE with free PSU... And a 1440 monitor.

Silly question, but can a 1440 still run a game set to 1080? I don't know how it works.

So... if I am running a game in 1440 and the FPS is really struggling, if I change the settings in game to be 1080p, how would that work on a 1440p monitor?

Or am I talking utter rubbish?
