They all pretty close together, but is there an argument for splitting tier c up? Maybe 4080 5080 7900xtx 5070 ti and 9070xt in c and the others in d?

If the 6600 and 6600 XT are worth being in their own tiers, I'd say so. PSU lists use A+, A-, I guess could do that.

I don't know why the 5080 is not Tier B, under the 4090

Likewise the 5070ti needs to be nudged up

Depends how you want to slice the tiers I suppose. 4090 is clearly the second best, but it’s a lot closer to the 5080 than 5090.

Then beneath those they more obviously group together.

Indeed, grouping the 5080 with the AMD variants is mischievous: they are poles apart.

In short, the 5080 is more aligned with the 4090, than other 4080 classes.

When you factor in the RT performance and VRAM which are important factors at this level Its certainly a bigger jump to the 4090 from the 5080 than the 5080 is over the 4080/5070ti.

A 5080 is actually closer to the 5070ti than a 4090 when averaged across multiple reviews.

Be that as it may. There has to be some cut off point of what makes something tier c. Otherwise you can fit in loads of cards in there.

5070Ti is definitely a tier c. And probably 5080 just about fits in the upper end of tier c. But I don't think it is outrageous to argue it could be at the lower end of tier b.

Realistically though the performance and player experience between a 4080 / 5070ti / 5080 will be very similar however when moving up to 4090 from a 5080 you have 17% more raster 21% better RT and 50% more VRAM and with newer games like Indy already encroaching on 16gb with the trend only set to continue over the the next 2 years I would certainly see a 5080 as a downgrade over a 4090.

There is also the chance with the perf gap bewteen a 5080 and 5090 that we'll see a 5080ti coming later that will slot in around a 4090.
