*** GPU Hierarchy ***

I think the top tier should be classed as 'S' tier like how a lot of hi-fi gear/headphones are ranked, currently having the likes of 3080ti's classed as 'B' tier doesn't make much sense, the 3090/3090ti really are more specialised offerings that rank above 'A', this would realign all the cards into a better ranking imo, 'A' tier 3080/ti, 'B' tier 3070/ti, 'C' tier 3060/ti etc.

I'm not sure the letter matters. It's more use as it is, a comparison/hierarchy tool, I think.

Couldn't care less if I had an A, B, or F as long as it does what I want. Having the approximate console comparisons and recommended resolutions is a good guide, as this is most likely to be useful for someone who has very little knowledge of graphics cards, but knows what games they'd like to target.

S tier is popular not just in the audiophile world and shows up a ton on any given grading list, i'm surprised its not used here. For me S stands for special but it could be for superb, super etc.I can only think of "awesome" for the A tier and for E & F, well thats pretty obvious.

Glad the 3070 issue was spoken of, it runs out of Vram in just 2 games in my library of over 900 games.

It's a shed load quicker when not Vram limited than the cards in the below tier, especially the 2080.

Also would be nice to fill out those lower tiers with older GPU's.

2070 Super.

isn't S tier a thing from japanese RPGs and SR is the highest?

I'd still keep the letters as they are, otherwise you could end up with all sorts of things. As an example, guitar top woods can be rated as AAAAA flamed maple which is ridiculous.

With tech that moves as fast and regularly as Gpus, there's going to be constant movement too.

Nope - everything pre- Geforce 6xx / Radeon 7xxx series is too old to be useful (lack of VRAM and driver updates, even for the odd cards that still have comparable "brute force") and just ends up as clutter.

(It may be that I draft up a "retro" table at some point, as I hate to see information lost, and at some point even the older generations in this table will need to be pruned).

I think the current tier system is as easy and straightforward as you can get

Arbitrarily choosing S to be top messes with a list if you're using the entire alphabet.

It's for super short lists where for whatever reason someone feels a need to flag that something is abnormally better. Or that's how it started and now it's mostly a mundane addition to ABCDEF :p

From personal experience the 6900xt is faster in lots of games, they trade blows.

Just my opinion. Based on experience.

Oh yea, I am not arguing with that. It is a very good card for sure. Just replying to what you said about timespy. Because then one can say it should be further downgraded due to its lack of showing in the Port Royal benchmark, which obviously is not right either :)
