GPU prices go boom

I've had to wait over a month for my 9 Vegas to turn up, in that time the price of them has increased by £200 a card!

I think maybe as PC gamers we are all looking to get to the top end all of the time.

People jumping from console to PC are perhaps looking to go from 1080p 30Hz gaming to 1080p 60Hz so the jump is maybe £300 more than a console when brand new. Over the life of the PC and the savings made on games, if you buy a lot, then it might make sense.

Once you start chasing even higher resolutions and VR then it becomes a money pit.
I agree with this. PC gaming only becomes expensive if you chase massive resolutions or very high frame rates.

I just built a cheap gaming PC for my nephew who has only gamed on a PS4 and Xbox One. He's loving the fact that 60fps is the norm for him now at 1080p and the bulk of games are dirt cheap compared to his consoles.

Define cheap? What sort of specs did you opt for to lure him away from his consoles?

I'm grateful that I'm at an age now where newer games don't appeal to me that much and I get most of my enjoyment playing older titles like Age of Empires 2 which could run on any PC from the last 18 years.

Between video card prices and the anti consumer b/s that's driven up memory prices it's really tough to be a PC gamer at the moment, I've always supported the platform but it's getting harder and harder to justify it especially when you consider what the latest XBOX offers up.

Just built a PC for a work friends son and he wanted a top of the range one and had a budget of a grand. That got him a Ryzen 1600 and a 6GB 1060. I useed to be able to build something semi decent for £500 but the grand total for everything was £875. PC gaming certainly isn't cheap.

Learn what lesson? There is such a short ROI, every card I buy is with profits. Not risking a penny. Been doing it this way for a long time.

Evening all. I am getting into mining and decided I fancy a bit of Electroneum in the OUK pool.
Today, I purchased the following:

2x 8GB Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 64 Liquid Cooling
Please by all means get yourself into debt more, you'll see what happens...

Depending on how much you paid for your Vegas they may have increased in value too haha.

I paid £700 for each. Mined ETN at low network diff, moved into a few different coins that exploded recently and I have already cashed out what I paid for them lol. I have reinvested in more cards now. Rinse and repeat.

I don't blame the miners, it's easy money if you know what you're doing. Everyone involved is after a quick buck and sadly it's gamers who are losing out.

Still, nothing to stop people mining themselves. Or trading the market.

Nothing stopping gamers mining overnight to fund their next card.

I wouldn't say all are in it for a quick buck as lots are in it long term, I know people who have paid off their house with mining the right coins at the right time.
