Gpu Problem Installation

:D yet...well i've been about as close as it gets to getting so ticked off the last 24 hours i even thought of dropping the darn setup on the bay...fear ye not i have come to my senses!
I have one monitor running off each gpu i uninstalled boinc and lunatics- more work wasted! Re installed boinc with no lunatics voila started downloading gpu work units ok and all is as it should be.
Am not even in the slightest bit tempted to mess with it anymore....it works fine now end of.
Just curious about optimized settings for gpu's using afterburner so the gpu units run a tad quicker theyre all on settings kindly suggested by Senture a few posts up, anyone have any thoughts on overclocking 2 x 285s purely for crunching .

well, if you don't mess with the standardised boinc/seti setup, i think you are
i) working less efficiently for science- wu's take that much longer (maybe 15%?)
ii) you get less credits both because it takes that much longer and because of how credits are calculated on a quorum of 3, 5 or 10.

you can let your rig run for a bit, then compare and see against other similar ones; I am sure loudbob has some data, my closest would be a currently running i7 920 only at 2.7GHz, with a 285gtx and a 250gts.

edit: I would at least run the lunatics for the optimised cpu apps and not the gpu apps.
 
Thanks for that Grimgoth i take your point, the last statement was partly a kneejerk reaction to the last 24hours but i do remain committed...just seems that my plans have faltered a bit.
Will at least as you say install lunatics :)
 
I'm looking forward to some building work tonight, moving my mITX rig from an inWin case to a SG06.... so I can add another GTS250 :)
Will probably loose the 9400 that is on bundled on that board though, which is a shame loss of 18 GFlops....going to work to keep it going though, lol.

You picked the wrong day to do anything that requires downloading new WU's (as i always seem to :rolleyes: I really need to plan better) Tuesday's the servers are down for maintenance and i stuggled to get any WU's on Monday as well this week. It may be worth setting boinc to not allow new task, clear the cache and try the optimised app again when you aren't gonna lose anything.
 
Cheers Reaver, all seems ok at the moment...touch wood. You sound suprised if theres a wrong day to do something you know i am bound to pick it, still thats another usefull nugget of information filed away for future reference. Its been a steep learning curve but i will stick with it. I am actually more concerned that Mr Halz is going to come a parping with a grin like a cheshire cat i dont think i could take it rofl :D:D:D:D
 
:D Well spotted Kolala dont think i've been so frustrated and aggravated as i have in the last few days thanks all for putting up with my ramblings, just going to sit back now and hope this machine produces like i hop it will.
Grimgoth has the same setup and is getting around 15000 a day average i hope mine will match it :D

Surely you will, before, correct me if I'm wrong, you had a 9800GT and a GTX260.

Now you have 2 GTX285's, to me that gets more PPD than your previous setup's.

Wait and see, I think you should be ok, I still have to shut 2 rigs down to switch motherboards soon.

Are you still running the P4's as well ;)

Edit: As of 09:13 your sig say's that you are at 124 in the team but you are actually at 115 - strange :confused:

:D Not at all hope it comes in usefull...i did kindoff shoot myself in the foot though...the darn 260 does not fit in the q6600:( So might end of getting another mobo for it, at least then i can oc it as the old one had bios locked because it was part of a pre built, its been a rough few days but hopefully my output should increase even with the one machine :D

Not really strange as he has just set a screenshot of his stats uploaded to imageshack as his sig :)

Toxic go here: http://www.teamocuk.co.uk/tsig/setup.php and setup your sig properly, you'll need a clean version of your sig image without the stats on it to start with :p

I dont have a copy halz did it for me...i think a large caffeine break is needed in order to increase my brain activity...its hard to get results with only 3 grey cells and an iq barely into double digits :confused:
