GPU2 CPU usage?

Yeah (4659.78 ppd vs 4507.83 ppd for the current 5007 WU).

Each linuxSMP output is still ~200ppd lower than it was before I installed the 8800GS.

Yeah the PC rebooted itself at about 9am this morning for some reason (wasn't related to todays Windows Updates as I haven't installed them yet on that system). I also rebooted it myself at lunchtime. But nothing has changed to explain the difference.

I honestly can't see how anything can cause that, except maybe minor differences between the WU's

Has the fahcore11.exe CPU usage % dropped?

The only thing I can think is it might somehow be related to that self reboot at 9am.

Do you run anything that can monitor the GPU usage %?
Might be worth looking at how much of the GPU core it is actually using.

That's pretty odd! Ah well, it's all beta software, strange things happen :p Don't reboot it for as long as possible in case it changes back again!

Yeah fahcore11.exe CPU usage has started bouncing between 0% and 20% rather than sitting at a near constant 25% of the Q6600. I've had a monitor hooked up to the rig since lunchtime to see if I can catch another shutdown, and I've had Task Manager open the whole time.

Not really sure what can show GPU usage, but it's PPD has only dropped by ~2%.

And my linuxSMP clients are now pulling in sub 22min frame times. Before the reboot they were closer to 24mins.

My 8800GT uses about 5-8% - so about 20-25% of one core. However I do have to use an external program to keep the windows priority of the GPU client above the VMWare priority in order for the usage to be maximised.

What's the priority program called?

I use renice to set the windows priority, then use z-cron to change the priority every 20 minutes. This is due to the fact that at the end of the WU the priority get reset.

I also use the Process Explorer to check the priorities are correct - I use 4 for the Linux SMP clients and 6 for the GPU client.

Please note that renice only seems to work on the systray version of the GPU client - try to set the priority of a service doesn't seem to work :|. Must admit I haven't tried using the console as a non-service version, but I like having the systray icon anyway :)

You could probably use Windows' own task scheduler instead of z-cron if you wanted to run one less separate program :)

I don't trust Windows task scheduler at all. Had some very bad experience with using it for commercial purposes and won't touch it again.

One thing I have noticed is that my FahCore_11.exe does only use CPU3 in its affinity. That might affect the amount of CPU it has access to, but I'm trying the 4 Linux SMP client setup overnight to see how it goes.

I found that messing with the affinities had no effect. I just left the GPU client on CPU 3 and left the virtual machines to have access to all 4 cores.

Well I've just switched on the fourth Linux SMP client, and the GPU client is now going between 0.5 and 3% CPU usage. However, I still get the same amount of points. Go figure :)

On the plus side, my output is now a nice round figure:

I did have some problems with that VM image, so my output will need to stabilise a bit for the next couple of days :(

Nah, you don't :p On the plus side, our production output is going through the roof :o We're going to have some nice news for the next couple of weeks :)

It's priming :p

And yeah I'm really looking forward to this weeks news mostly thanks to verbal ;)

The GPU2 client needs a whole core of my E6600 (XP), if it doesn't get it, it EUE's, the words spoilt and brat spring to mind.

I'm assuming it probably shouldn't behave like this? i.e. if it doesn't get a whole core it should just slow down not EUE

Ok I've installed Vista Home Premium 64 and the 9800 GTX is still using a whole core.

This must surely mean that it's being limited by the CPU speed?

Will have to see if OCing it a little helps, what do you think?
