Grafitti on private properties

What of public property? Surely if it belongs to the public then any member of the public has the right to decorate it as they see fit, non?

If it belongs to the public, do you ever take into consideration that the public probably don't want to see it defaced?

But how do you dispose of the bodies ? :p

Feed them to a pig, or find an open grave, dig it down a few feet, shove them in and put the few feet of soil back in. As long as it's not discovered before the grave is used the chances of someone digging it up is remote.

Tell you what...Show me one 'public' property that is 100% loved (aesthetically) by the public with not ONE contrary opinion and I'll put down my cans.

I'll go with Nelson's Column and Trafalgar Square. Do I get a prize? ;)

Dabbled in Graffiti when I was a yoof, no more than once or twice and I was poo. My Sis' boyfriend has been doing it for years, and has made a tidy sum from doing it. He has been on the front of magazines and is regularly invited to paint-offs where he paints then auctions his work in front of a crowd.

Some of his stuff is amazing. Generally Graffiti is crap. Tagging etc. however, I do like the look of a many-times-tagged wall like this kind of pic..

So what's wrong with them then? I see you're from Scotland too? Might that have something to do with it?
Perhaps another example:

The Tower of London. I can't think of anyone who dislikes the way the examples I've given look.

I don't think it has to be 100% loved, just loved by the majority.

Also, graffiti can make a building worse (and usually does) so I'd hardly use some people's dislike of a building as justification for making it worse in the eyes of the majority.

Are you the self styled voice of the people? Do you poll every resident to see if they'd like you to ***** paint all over a local building? Or do you just assume that everyone has already gotten together and agreed that some waster should spray paint it because it'll obviously look far better resembling a new york tube train than a building?

My point was that taste is entirely individual. What one person sees as defacing, another sees as beautifying.

Some said Jackson Pollock defaced canvases...

I think Visage's sig is appropriate here... ;)

I assume from your use of the smiley that you appreciate that free speech and freedom to decorate publicly held buildings as you please are two different things...

But feel free to talk about graffiti all you want, I'm not about to try and stop you ;)

I think they are two horns of the same goat.

And if I choose to practice it...?

Speech is (money wise) free. Cleaning or repainting a building is not.

Then I fear you may have to explain your... um... communist (?) political views on the public nature of buildings to the police.

Do you graffiti buildings in plain and public sight?
