Thought it would be nice to have a thread where people who have the game can chat about it without giving anything away to those who don't want to know.

It would be nice if we could all prove we have it as well by posting a picture - something I would have been able to do really easily before upgrading to XP but now I can't seem to get the pic off my phone. If anyone else is on a phone 3G connection then I could SMS it to you to pop up for me :D

Not had chance for too much of a go yet, but from what I have seen so far I'm not dissapointed one bit. It looks great and still feels very much like a GTA game.

[EDIT] Finally figured out how to get the pic off my phone :D

Had a damn good session on this last night and I think it's the best GTA yet by far. It's just awesome :D

Takes about an hour to get used to the controls as they are different to what you are used to with a GTA game but once you hit the sweet spot they actually feel better and more intuitive. The graphics are superb, although again it takes you a while to fully appreciate them. There's definately a watercolour effect on the backgrounds as they get further into the distance etc, but it actually works very well as an art style imo.

The radio stations are great too and some of the music is just sublime - I can't beleive they have an ambient radio station  it's brilliant.

Anyone else been giving it a good bash yet?

How do you mean, ambient? (I know what the word means, but wanna know exactly how it relates to the radio station)

Ambient, like chill out music - I hate that phrase though as I have been a looooong time ambient music fan and 'chill out' just makes you think about nobs with white gloves on and dummies in their mouths high on E!!!!

[edit] Ambient like this http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/#?page=bellicN&content=video0

Some really good music so far though and 18  radio stations.

I got my preorder thru the post this morn for the 360, gonna give it a go after I return form the gym.

But has anyone gone to Split sides yet and listened to Ricky Gervais stand up? I love that guy, and am very excited about going there... hope its not 1 minutes worth though :(

I think the comedy club is on the second island. But you can turn the TV on in your apartment and watch it from there :D

If I was scoring it I would give it 12/10 - I think it's absolutely bloody brilliant. Yeah ok, they have cut some of the pointless stuff out like the RPG elements and the parachutes, but the amount of extra stuff added is brilliant. The more I play this game the more I love it; it just keeps on getting better and better imo.

Niko is one of the best GTA characters to date and his character has quite a lot of depth too - you actually end up feeling sorry for him sometimes. Multiplayer so far is awesome too.

To me this game is exactly what I was hoping for. It's essentially still GTA with lots and lots of improvements thrown in and HD graphics. The City is bloody huge. I got the map out of GTA IV and out of GTA III and compared them, it's about ten times bigger - seriousley, check it out!

New features like the mobile phone, internet, improved car handling, physics and AI etc are brilliant too.

Said in the IGN review that you hardly see the same person twice. I don't know how true this is as I don't have the game yet.

I think if they would have included a realistic amount of people like there is in NY city today then I think with all the different textures etc needed for the extra models I think the data storage size if the DVD for the 360 would be reaching its limits maybe even over it.

When you think about it, it wouldn't have been difficult at all for them to add the extra NPCs to the environment.

I do think that the DVD may be the source of the issue of there not being a larger number of NPCs or a higher number of cars on the road etc.

I think the amount of people and vehicles is just right. Can you imagine if the volume of predestrians and traffic was the same as new york? Wouldn't be much fun just sitting in a huge traffic jam would it!!!

Draw distance is appalling. Yes theres isn't too much pop up of stuff close, but everything being "out of focus" is a cheap trick to use low res low power stuff. The distance at which buildings are completely out of focus is normally laughable. THe problem with "focus" in games being billed as realistic is, in real life you can focus on any part of the world at any time and the rest isn't in focus, but what you're looking at is. A game can't just make random bits it doesn't want to draw out of focus, because in reality if i look at that building at the end of a very short street, i can see it in focus FFS. Games have to be in focus everywhere all the time because they can't decide which bit of the screen/scene you might be looking at.

AS i said, out of focus being a realism thing, is crap, its hiding lack of power. Very unimpressed with , well most character models, they seem very poor. Animation seems "ok" with most things, flying a chopper and watching someone(if you've nicked it and they want you out) hanging on for dear life till dropping out over the river from miles up is great although thanks to focus you can't damn well see a splash :( .

THis for PC with far bigger draw distance, high level AF is soooo massively needed, and 2xaa is screaming to be used, will be pretty damned good.

The shadows are also truly awful, they make everything look incredibly hazy when they don't need to. Not sure if its playing on a 1920x1200 screen, but the "softer" lighter edge of shadows looks damn crap, and as its fuzzy, looks fairly bad normally but when framerate is crap, with motion blur(another gpu power hiding "realism" effect) it looks horrifically bad.

Overall, though the city has a very nice feel to it, everything is just not as good as it really should be.
Ever heard of chryogenics? Maybe you could freeze yourself for a generation or two and come back when the technology is available to produce what you want in a game ;)

Gameplay, its quite nice, some buggy target locking. Frankly there shouldn't be target looking on foot but only when in a damn car, as some of the missions, shooting ruddy bikers :@
The target locking is 1000% better than previous GTA games - don't see your problem here.

But the story is so cliche'd, everything that ever happens in all games is in there. NOt a suprise yet, most of the jokes have been done before, nothing inspiring, nothing EPIC about the story or even remotely enticing.

Gameplay feels good, but its lacking graphically, and story is weak.
Cliche'd story  This is a GTA game for ****s sake - of course it has a cliche'd story :p

I think you are looking for some kind of perfect game which offers everything which YOU think should be there. Can't you just play a game and think wow this is really good without over analysing every part of it?

I dont think the loading times are that high on the 360 - the inital load is only 2mins if that, by the time ive taken my trousers off made a drink and scratched my balls im ready to game... the mission loading times are about 20seconds if that - and no loading in between - hardly high in my eyes...

I know how long it takes to take off my trousers and scratch my balls, but what type of drink are we talking here, a quick glass of council pop or making a pot of tea and letting it brew? There's a big difference in the length of time it takes to make these drinks y'know! :p

Things to do in Liberty City *Possible Spoilers*

Thought it would be good to have a thread for any 'little extras' you find in GTA IV. Rockstar always put so much into the games and a lot of it you don't even realise you can do unless you stumble across it.

Did you know?
  • You can watch TV in your apartment? Really funny stuff on there too, like the space amrines style cartoon :D
  • You can whistle a cab? Just press L1 while looking at a cab to whistle it and then press and hold triangle to get in and select destination.
  • You can get to the airport really quickly by using your mobile phone to select 'SIXASIS tutorial' and then quit to be standing outside Francis International (PS3 version only).
  • No hidden packages in GTA IV, but you do have Flying Rats (Pigeons) and there are 200 to collect
  • You can visit a comedy club? Once you have unlocked the middle island Algonquin, just drop by the comedy club in Star Square to watch some great standup. There's quite a few different routines so keep popping back for more.

Anyone got any more little gems?

Too many thread ffs. Delete this crap and stick it in the spoilers thread.

GTA thread
Live thread
PSN thread
Spoilers thread

Plus no-one will find stuff. idiots will look for the easter eggs on the internet and post here. Much prefer for people to find i out themselves, rather than ppl reading guides and passing it off as their own finds.

More than enough.

The main thread is just too big for this sort of stuff. I was thinking it would be good for quick viewing etc.
The Live and PSN threads are for multiplayer so really not relevant.
The spoilers thread was for those of us who had the game early so as not to give anything away to those who were still waiting until today.
