graphics jerk

I get the mouse freeze on CoD2, not quite as bad as you, but it just becomes unresponsive in certain situations/times.

I only got it since upgrading to an X1800XT and installing 6.8s, I was on 6.7s for my X800.

Hmm. Looks suspiciously like the driver.

Its weird as its only Oblivion thats doing it, and thats a ll i can think off the drivers, as last time i played it must have been around the time of the 6.5's or something, may drop back to em just to test it out, im on a newer install of windows since then to so i can't see it being that either.

Ive got COD2 here think ill install it and try that then as well first.

Weird how the gfx freeze as well though, as if you watch where he's standing there on the inventory jiggling about and blinking and that, when it freezes he does as well, hmm could be i suppose as it is a graphical pointer as well.

Ill try COD2 as said, my mates playing that fine on the 6.8's like, so ill try here, and then try 6.5's or something as well as said.

I noticed jerkiness in FEAR, like the game pauses for a moment, and I traced it back to having Adaptive AA turned on.
I'm sure you've probably tried all CCC settings already, but I just thought I'd mention it.

oh no that isnt on ;)

UPDATE

Well ive just fixed it :D

Was a codec problem, i could'nt find me first disc for COD2, so i tried the 6.5's with oblivion instead, was the same, tried the chuck patch, was the same, so i thought it seemed to be doing it when the music changed as well, i.e when the rats bust out of the wall the music picks up and it pauses there to, and it also done it when the tutorial boxes came up to, as they make a sound as well, so i removed my community codec pack, my quicktime, and this other voideo codec, and volia, running sweet as again, pause has vanished, so im going back to the 6.8's, and im going to install my codecs again one by one, and test Oblvion each time so i can find out which one is messing it up. :D

Could be a codec problem for you to BloodWolf, if you have any others on there, but its running sweet as a nut again now for me seen as ive removed some codecs that i put on. :)

Hmmm... I have the CCCP too... interesting.

I don't think it's that though, I mean, there's not a lot of music in CoD2! :p (Edit. Multiplayer at least. I don't play the SP).

I'll try that as a last resort.

Yeah the CCCP is fine ive just tested it with that on again, still runs sweet, but it fell over as soon i installed the Vodei Multimedia Processor, pausing came back, so unisntalled that again, and Volia, running fine again, so it was that git for me. :D

Just played the single player CoD2... whacked everything up to max, Full AA etc, 1440x900. Only managed to get around 30-50fps on the Hill 400 level. I think the X1800Xt is capable of more than that, so I have a feeling it might be my CPU limiting me. No mouse lag, though, so that's good. It's an A64 3200+ if I haven't already said.

Sound likely?

Nice to see that you're fixed. :)

It's looking like it might be the CPU that's causing my problems.

As for Bloodwolf...

Yeah mind you, i havn't bothered with Quicktime which is the one i suspected once it turned out to be a codec, as when im using Quicktime it seems to hog my CPU usage, like if i stretch the window it will pause, then a couple of seconds later it will do it, but ill just leve that off anyway i think cos of that. :)

Google: Quicktime Alternative.

Oh, you might as well get Real Alternative while you're there, too. It allows other media player (I use MPC) to play QT/Real formats.

Hmm... it's definitely looking like a CPU bottleneck. I whacked everything down... 800x600, AA off, Low settings... it looked crap and should have run faster than a greased weasel turd.

I was only pulling 70-80fps in some situations, which is rubbish.

I was thinking of upgrading to an X2 4400+... would I see a noticeable difference? Not only is there a .2Ghz improvement per core, there's a 1Mb cache as opposed to 512k.

Im new here hi :D

Well anyway ive had this problem for ni on 3 years it started with my last computer and is doing it with this 7month old one aswell. I have changed ni on everything and spent a thousand pound or so in trying to fix it , the only thing i havent changed is the monitor and many of the cables.

With oblivion i get frame skipping skip skip skip skip which if i up the refresh rate HZ on the monitor the skipping becomes much less noticable. This also happens with transport tycoon. Games like battlefield 2 and 2142 skip every so often its a lot more noticable for the first 10mins of playing where its skipping or jerking almost as if a hard drive is being thrashed ( which it isnt ). Other games such as rts or age of empires for example if i scroll across the screen it skips or stutters across as if my computer needs more memory. As i said i changed pretty much everything to fix it and i never have been able to.

Regarding what ive done

changed irqs
swap file change
defragged
reinstalled os numorus times
disabled services , removing any load up software or background software
overclocked the system, gfx card or put it to default
Changed memory timings
Changed psu 3 times
different motherboard
Different ram
Sound card disabled , sound card acceleration down one notch
Diffferent graphics card
Different hard drive from ide to sata
Different mouse & keyboard
Even changed the room around lol
Used different catalyst drivers and even used different nvidia drivers when i had a nvidia card

DFI SLI-D
AMD 64 3800+ X2 @ 2.60 260FSB
2GB BALLISTIX
XFI SOUNDCARD
POWERCOLOR X1800XT
HYPER TYPE R MODULAR 600WATT

what are you talking about?
your x1800 isnt that great, 80 fps is fine at 800x600 and at 1440x960 max everything getting 40fps is fine as well

your cpu will be bottlnecking it yes because its old, but not that much, your card is dated now, so as long as its playable, ignore ** fps score

x1800 is still a cracking card today, Bf2 absolutely belted along for me in 1280x1024 (TFT) maxed everything when i used to play it, hell even my old x800 XT PE used to cut through it.

The x1800 XT is dated yes, but still its a cracking card that cuts through everything with ease, mine does. :)

Neil, I know my Oblivin runs @ 85hz (Max for my monitor @ 1024x768)

when u say change of cables, which ones u referin too?

Ahh sorry man was going by my own issues , mine runs at 60HZ if i change to 75hz i get less skipping. Change of cables i was just pointing out that i havent changed those nor have i changed the monitors our issues are generally the same i get what you do but in battlefield.

Id love my issues to be solved put up with it for ni on a year now
