GRAW Graphics: Not that good?

Got GRAW on last night having finished COD2 on Veteran. Slightly disappointed with the graphics tbh. The comments I've seen so far are praising it for its graphics. Heres my 2p.

(Running through 37" LCD, HD. Tried both component & VGA)

- Textures look really low res
- I have major tearing problems on fast movement scenes.
- Bad framerate. Going from COD2 that was silky smooth makes this move like its struggling to cope.

Don't get me wrong, the graphics are good, but I was expecting more. Some scenes look better than others though.

Thoughts?

The tearing problems could be due to your TV's firmware. It's unusual for a game alone to cause tearing unless you have your TV settings (colour) set pretty high.

It deffo has tearing on my HDTV, although its not as bad as PD0

Those are the only 2 games I have noticed it on.

I get some tearing, although its actually worse in the ubisoft intro than actual game. Cant say I've seen any low res textures though :/

In general I think the graphics are great - at least on a par with cod2 and the lighting surpasses cod2, although the framerate is definitely worse. I'm pretty sure cod2 is 60fps and its solid whereas theres are some big chugging moments in graw for sure, which actually look worse because of the the 3rd person perspective.

Graphics are the best I've ever seen, the size of the environments and the actual geometry are very impressive.

No tearing on my Sony 42" Plasma (KDEP-42SX1). Also, it's not slow down, it's made to be like that. You'll see it's totally different in Multiplayer (just like Quake 4).

i have to say this game is gorgeous and has the best fire effects / blowing up effects ive ever seen in a game.

Especially with the sound in 5.1 and your hud fuzzing over... i like the fact if your by a tank and it shoots the rocket that passes you and the noise fuzzes up your hud, very cool

the sounds are kool and i dont even have surround sound lol

On the dry docks level u can hide in some big metal tube the guns sound well good when ure firing from inside it

To be honest, I'm not disappointed with the graphics, but based on the hype, I was expecting a little bit more.

Don't get me wrong, what's there is brilliant, the animation is smooth, fast, texturing is spot on and the models are some of the best I've seen, but as a 'whole' package, I'm sure there's gonna be better round the corner.

The one thing I can say with a smug grin, is that I've not experienced any tearing (or on PD0 for that matter). I've seen an awful lot of posts with people with these big fandangled HDTV DLP 1024IP RTS DOLBY16.4 Progressive Scan and Stereoscopic vision that goes 'ping' when you turn it on TV's and a lot are reporting this 'tearing' effect!

But, back to the question, the graphics are good, they're very good, but I don't think we've seen the best yet, personally I reckon GOW is gonna blow it away.

Also, it's not slow down,

There are some moments of slowdown - the mission where you escort VIP in the multistory car park is one where it slows to a crawl. It also is slightly jerky when panning certain scenes. Other than that though I'd agree its pretty smooth.

Everyone gets tearing with this game,it doesn't matter what tv you have.

Well I haven't noticed any, thats not to say it's not there. I have noticed tearing in 1 or 2 games, but not GRAW (yet).

I always assumed tearing was due to the framerate being higher than the monitor/Tv refresh rate, enabling vsync always eliminates the problem when PC gaming,it's a pity the 360 doesn't have a vsync option, unless there is an option to enable it in the Graw game menu.

I get no tearing nowt here, i think the graphics are great, i think it looks better than it did in all the screenshots, and videos tbh, when i first booted it up and started playing i was "Bloody Hell  , its only a £280 console".

Absolutely. But every comment I saw was praising the graphics. I though that, for example, COD2 ran better and coped with a near constant 60fps framerate. GRAW seems to struggle to maintain a decent framerate. Some explosions I have seen have literally taken the game to a crawl.

I thought the visuals were jaw dropping tbh on my 20" tft via VGA.
There are quite a lot of low res textures dotted about the place but overall, the enviroments are very nice if static. I gasped upon loading it up for the first time.
