Great British Bake Off (will likely include spoilers)

Channel 4 have acquired the contract for at least three years from 2017 .

This is just wrong. It's such a BBC programme, if ever there was one.

Presumably the new crowd will be advert-loving 'I'm a Celebrity' licence-fee avoiders.

:(

Pleased this went to C4 and not ITV, if it had to go anywhere it is in safer hands there. However I agree this is BBC through and through.

Can't wait for them to remove the history lesson part and insert an advert break with multiple "Coming up" and recap "Earlier" segments. :(

Yup :( then they just need the standard hipsters, 'in' people, loud people and gotta have that someone who's never baked and is completely **** but everyone finds him really funny. "Oh Johnny, that's not how you make a cake  , hahahahaha, look at the mess...".

As said it's better on C4 than on ITV. The adverts don't worry me so much - I'll just record it and hopefully the fast-forwarding won't ruin the flow. It's sometimes easy to forget just how lucky we are regarding adverts (and the BBC) compared to some countries (USA/Australia).

My main worry is that they apparently haven't started negotiations with any of the presenters or judges - surely before splashing out £20m+ they need certain guarantees about Paul, Mary, Mel and Sue? Take any of them out and it simply isn't the same programme.

If they change An Extra Slice I'll be equally gutted - it's such an fun 30 minutes of telly.

Agreed. It should be dropped if they're not getting those 4. It's their show, or at least they make the show what it is.

Or the BBC could just keep it and, you know, keep at least a few decent things?

Sounds like the production company had enough of the BBC.
Im sure the presenters will be back - that juicy pay check is nothing they are going to be finding elsewhere.

People crying about nothing really, adverts dont ruin the format, you just have to watch the superior Le Meilleur Pâtissier to understand that.
Also the format is what is being sold, and like the french version you would be surprised how much is the same and actually having different presenters/judges doesnt change anything at all.

I'm not so sure. Paul probably will be as he'll want to keep funding his fledgling motorsport hobby, and Bake Off is pretty much what made him.

Mary's got to be at least 200 years old now and will continue to make a pretty penny from books.

Mel and Sue have had plenty of success over the years, but their stock has probably never been higher and they won't be short of offers should they decide that 7 series has been enough.

Who is taking money from the world wide licensing though - is the BBC so the UK tax payer nonetheless benefiting per episode - surprising if these ideas really belong to independant people - any Ideas i come up with at work are owned by company
( Could they not have got rid of strictly instead - a referendum )

Thanks for the ref to the French version , will watch some on utube ... add some intellectual challenge - it seems to be sponsored by Kenwood as opposed to Kitchen Aid for the Beeb

Apparently the BBC offered double its previous payment to 15m and the company doing the program demanded 25m.

Someones taking the **** when jacking up the fees that much.

And this was a quote from the company:

In an internal email to staff, the production company said it was “really saddened by this outcome because we always wanted to stay on the BBC ... this has never been about who might write the biggest cheque but about where we can find the best home for Bake Off”.

Yeah, no, it does sound exactly about who can write the biggest cheque.

Channel 4 and E4 have a huge tendency lately for doing a gamut of naked dating shows, so maybe they will turn it into The Great Naked British Bake Off.
