Pushing to all level 4 resources today, and my second cranny to level 10...

Same plan that i'm following :D

Build resources and keep them safe , before i start thinking about defence.

My happy band of 8 Macemen are earning their wheat with constant raids.

I take it you intend to sacrifice that unit? Even if he has no troops, it will die by sending it alone.

Yeah I did. The guy did have defense and promptly sent me a message saying he will get me when I come out of noob protection. I'm currently researching scouts so I can eye him up.

why is it that my wheat fields are all bar one up to level 2, but my wheat production is only showing as 7 per hour??? Does it take into account the wheat usage by the other things???

I don't get how people have been able to build up so much in such short times, I'm constantly out of resources and having to wait for ages.

Yeah.

Does anyone know what happens when you send a scout to an enemy village? Will he get killed if the enemy has more scouts than you? Will you still get information about their force if they have more scouts than you? I'm not too sure how it works.

For the duration of your noob protection, do nothing but alternate the grow of resource fields.

Build warehouse/granary when you start to stockpile up to your limit, then on your last day of noob protection, put everything into leveling your cranny.

I managed to not get attacked by anyone for the first week out of noob protection, so I could build without worrying much. :)

Excellent advice.

Without resources you will struggle.

I know its not very exciting and pretty slow at first.

You will gain momentum after a bit.

It think it's down to two things: Using the Plus option to increase production by 25%, and putting a fair amount of time into it to raid others.

I found that being a Gaul made it easier, as the only person who attacked me ended up paying 600 of each resource so I'd release his troops from my traps. I've not been bothered since.

Saying that, I'll probably get totalled soon!

Trapping works on lower level foes.

I was going to try it against the big boy that raided me, but he has so many troops that he just did a normal (non-raid) attack to free his troops.

If I tried to hold them ransom, I bet he would have threatened to continually attack me. :(

If the attacker only has say 5 troops, and you trap all 5, then ransom away ;)

Your wheat production @ 7 / hour, will be the " excess " you are producing.

i.e : 23 / 30 ( Fifth stat along , sort of shaped like x )

Means your village/population usage is 23 / hour

You are producing 30 / hour

Difference = 7 / hour

But bear in mind that wheat is an essential resource and has to be built on.

I'm currently producing ~ 40 / hour "excess" and its a struggle.

It's frustrating though, as the troops you trap take up your wheat allowance, so all you can do is keep them or release them. There should be an option to execute them!

Aye, but that would be quite imbalanced in favour of the gauls, as the cost of a trap is way less than a troop, and would become a guaranteed kill.

I've just scouted this roman. No troops

If I sent just one scout and he has doesn't have any, will it definitely tell me if he has troops positioned? I did pick the troops and defense option. I got a report of no troops nor scouts. I'm a little suspicious.

Can someone confirm that he won't have troops please? I really don't want to send my main attack force to bring him down then he butchers me.

Yeah I will. That's what I think is happening. Or he is reinforcing an abandoned village to make it look like he is an easy target. I just find it strange he had a defense when I sent that troop yesterday. Well I need to raid this bugger dry or he'll attempt the same when my protection runs out so I'm just going to go for it. He's going to feel like a mug if I do flatten him, after threatening me and all :D

Edit

I've sent a scout 5 minutes ahead of my attack force. I will call off the attack if reports don't look good. I hope this works :D

Another edit

Doh, thought you could cancel attacks. Looks like you can't.
