Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 14th Jan 2021]

I think you will be pretty worried if you're 6 points behind United come Sunday evening.

It's 1st v 2nd and is the biggest fixture for the fans every season in the league.

Not massively I wouldnt no, we still have to play Utd again yet after that, so even if we ended up 6pts behind them on sunday evening, win the 2nd meeting against them and its a 3pt gap which would just mean needing to win 1 other match that Utd lose to be level again. The single result on sunday really doesnt worry me, as disappointing as that might be to Utd fans to hear, but the run after sunday against Spurs, Man City, Leicester and Everton..thats much more worrying to me because its far harder to close a gap caused by a run of point drops than it is to close a gap caused by a single match point drop.

Okay, you must be the first Liverpool fan I've seen say they really aren't worried about the result in this fixture. I mean most fans are worried about losing it, even when there's a huge points gap between the two.

I think it's stating the obvious to say losing or drawing a load on the bounce is statistically speaking, worse than losing a single fixture, yes.

Looks like Matip is fit. If so it means we can have pretty solid midfield with Henderson back in with Thaigo and another. I think he will go Gini myself but id be looking at big shaq.

Its just who I am, outside of cup matches I just dont terribly worry about the result of an individual match. Individual matches can be overcome in the course of a season and as I am not someone who cares what other clubs fans think, nor am I someone who has any interest in one-upping other clubs fans or so called bragging rights, an individual league match just isnt a worry for me. Runs of matches are much more troubling.

Well a loss to them would extend the current poor run of form, end the league home run and pile the pressure on going into those games with sides around you. I mean every game is essentially a must-win, I just thought Liverpool fans would have seen it as such. You're right about bragging rights as this year it means a lot more than that with them being competitive.

I don't expect Liverpool to lose the game on Sunday, more trying to work out the thoughts of their fans if it did happen.

The current form is an issue, not overly bothered about the league home run, its a nice bonus and all but not hugely important in the grand scheme of things, would put more pressure on the succeeding games but as a standalone individual match its not a worry to me, we could lose it and then turn around the form and go on a big unbeaten run, hence why this single match doesnt worry me. We've come back from worse. Those coming matches in the next 6 game after though, those have potential to be a run of points dropped and thats a worry. At least that provides you with this Liverpool fans thoughts on it :)

I'm not just saying this but it would be one of the biggest shocks I've ever seen if we somehow won it.

Liverpool are a more solid team and have a great set of attackers, even with defenders injured, and Man City can go up another couple of gears yet.

It's certainly not impossible but just so unlikely, funny as it would be.

It is the improvement I am more than happy with. We are a couple of players short in the summer of being true challengers next season. Someone on the right wing and a quick center back and that's it.

We are ten points clear of Chelsea who were touted as title challengers this season.

You nearly won the fixture at OT last year, had a few decent chances (ofc the goal had a foul in the build up) and required a late equaliser from Liverpool.

We are now riddled with injuries, playing with much less confidence, have zero actual CBs + best DM to counter your countering line up. Combine that with manus ability to win everything right now and occasionally playing well.

I'm not just saying this, but you guys are trying real hard to play down how big of an oppurtunity this is to go 6 clear at the top, absolutely massive chance and the perfect moment to play this game.
Obviously Liverpool could turn up and win comfortably but right now, everything points to anything but that result.

We are not 6 clear at the top. We are one point ahead of City. If we lose to Liverpool. City have potential to go top.

It also seems Pep has lucked out with covid/injuries as he had to change his play style and it is arguably working better than he would have been having Jesus up top.

Along with the defensive improvements required, we really, really need a consistent centre forward to be able to properly compete, Martial isn’t it and Rashford is up and down too. Greenwood needs to develop more. Cavani is good, but he’s in his twilight years.

Every poor result just brings the Mourinho meltdown closer and closer. Just wait until he starts blaming individual players.

We are so different without Tierney. Pretty boring game after a decent start. AMN is awful and I really hate Zaha.

Zaha is crap. I am baffled yearly that hes linked with a silly money move. I didnt thing AMN played that badly tbh certainly not bad enough to be singled out. Auba was bloody woeful again and Partey and Pepe may aswell have stayed on the bench.
