Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 19th January 2023]

Would love to say Brighton were amazing today but they simply exposed our massive personel and tactical weaknesses. Deserved the 3 points, could and should've scored more but we allowed them to play that way today.

This has been as bad as the worst of the 20/21 season. Not only have we been as wide open defensively, barring two crosses from Trent I can't think of any attacking threat today. In 20/21, once the midfield and attack started firing, we were able to mask our issues at CB and were able to go on a run to get us into the top 4 but I cannot for the life of me see how that can happen this season. Yes the midfield is a big issue but it's more than just that. There's no energy or intensity throughout the side, not just in midfield and both of those things are pivotal to how we play.
You have Salah and your brand new spanking signing up front.
Unfortunately individuals don't make a balanced line-up. With just the two of them available we were massively limited in terms of how we could line-up, and none of the options were close to being ideal.

It would probably read:

If I'm being entirely honest, its something like

I do alright, usually about 200-300 up each month, its quite the mystery amongst my friends and colleagues just how often I do win :)

Klop to stubborn to tweak the style of play?

Slightly more defensive. Two sitting DM's

He seems intent on the 433 and you need fit mobile CM/DM's to play that formation. (At least 2)

He did tweak the system and we didn't play a 4-3-3. Salah and Gakpo played as split strikers with Thiago in a number 10(ish) position and Henderson tucked in on the right of Fab. The tweaked system didn't solve any of our defensive issues but massively limited our attacking threat.

We absolutely haven't been intent on playing a 4-3-3 this season either and Klopp's comments after the Gakpo signing make it pretty clear to me that he wants to play a 4-2-3-1 moving forwards too. Back in October we switched to a 4-2-3-1/4-4-2 but very soon after Diaz picked up a serious injury and with Jota not available too, we simply had nobody to play wide in that system (I'm sure Klopp even said that post game too). The moment Jota was fit we moved back to the 4-2-3-1/4-4-2 but he pretty much got injured again straight away too and we again had no wide players that could play in a 4-2-3-1/4-4-2.
