Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 19th May 2022]

Well at least we’ve got more chance of winning the Europa than the champs league. Every cloud and all that.

5th gets champs league soon, so just a year or two to wait.
No it doesn’t? It goes to two clubs with the highest club coefficient doesn’t it? Arsenal are 17th in that list. United and even Spurs get that spot first.

That's a huge setback for Arsenal. They haven't been in the CL for years now and it's likely (though not guaranteed) that United and Spurs will be stronger next season.

I personally don't rate Arteta - he's spent a lot and had no European mid-week fixtures. I think Arsenal could do better.

Who though? Got any names?

I could list quite a few managers who are likely an upgrade, all the usual candidates.

As it stands Spurs have a better manager and two elite players in Kane & Son, so it's not a shock they've managed to sort themselves out and will likely finish ahead of Arsenal.

They extended Arteta’s contract because there’s a long-term plan and they’re willing to give him medium-term time to build the side he wants and see if it works. We’ll finish 5th with the youngest side in the league after gutting the team in the past couple of transfer windows in a far more extensive way than other clubs have been willing to do and winging the 2nd half of the season with a small squad.

That core squad will get added to in the summer with some experience/quality (hopefully) and those same young players will grow and learn and we should improve on this season. If Arteta gets the type of players he’s after and we fail to improve or get worse, it’s not like any club is ever stuck with any manager. For the time being though I’m willing put up with a young inconsistent team and manager that will hopefully improve season by season, rather than the approach (or lack of) the previous executive staff had which was an unmitigated disaster. You can’t go from years of decline and dropping out of Europe altogether, to being right back in regular top 4 contention in one season.

This was literally ‘year 1’ for the rebuild squad. 5th is about right all things considered. I would expect a stronger top 4 challenge next season. If there isn’t then we can talk about the manager.

That's what I kept saying to my spurs mate weeks ago. Spurs have a better squad then arsenal and a better manager

What another good win, the building blocks are in place, the league position improved, squad improved, performances Imoroved, training facilities about to be improved, gooooooo TOOOONNNN.

so excited to see what happens in the summer, get this team built around big Dan Burn and Bruno G. Future superstar.

Given where Arsenal were not that long ago not making top 4 is an absolute failure.

Relying on the likes of Spurs for you to get CL football is funny I agree.
