No but it would have been interesting to see how the teams would had done without coronavirus in the middle. Smaller squads got the advantage of extra rest. Something that would go in Liverpool's favour and against Cities who rely on having two teams to steam roll their way through the tail end of the season.

It will be interesting to see how Liverpool do without Europe next season. It will be a blessing in disguise and will allow them to come back stronger in 24/25. Maybe even a title charge with the right signings in 23/24.
Liverpool were TWENTY FIVE points clear of second place when Covid hit, City had 10 games left and Liverpool 9. Even without covid, it's reasonable to assume a team like Liverpool could claim 6+ points from their remaining 9 fixtures, and that's assuming City would win 10 in a row.

I'm not too sure how much thought went into Adam's post. As HangTime said, the League was done and dusted in 19/20, it probably was done by January in all honesty. The 20/21 season was probably more impacted by covid given that the start of the season was delayed, no fans were in stadiums, there was constant postponements meaning teams were often having to play every few days and it was almost lucky dip as to which players you'd have available for any given game. That season Liverpool struggled and City walked the League. You can't put that all down to covid and Liverpool obviously had a major injury crisis that season but it doesn't support Adam's arguement.

I know people bang on about City having massive squads.....but more important than that, their players tend not to get injured. Either they pick robust players, or their conditioning and physio programs are exceptional (or both).

It's pretty amazing someone as explosive as Haaland doesn't get crocked occasionally.

City's squad isn't as big as people make it out to be but what City have is a core of 17 or 18 players where, barring a couple of exceptions, there's little or no drop off. Just using this season as an example, players like Dias and Foden (who have been key for City in the past couple of seasons) aren't performing but they can just take them out the side and bring in Stones and Grealish. Barring the keeper, KDB and Haaland (and the replacements for the latter two are still top players), they can swap out anybody in their side without a big drop off. No other side can do that. There are other sides with possibly bigger squads than City but they only have 8-10 players of the standard of City's 17-18 and then the quality of the next 10 drops off.

Less surprising when you realise he's played an average of 65m per game (from an overall squad number of games for City perspective, not being routinely subbed off)

How is Garth Crooks picking his team of the week?? His GK this week is DDG.

Forest didn’t have any shots on target!
Why are you even reading it? He's been way off for ages. Someone posted a while back examples of him putting people in who didn't even play.

I wasn't specifically talking about their league run that season but more managing to keep up with City for three seasons.

At this point it’s becoming a running joke. He just picks who he fancies and makes a formation for them. 2 defender, 8 attackers? Sure, why not.

Man is a complete idiot and I have no idea why he still gets to do totw.

Is anyone sure he is even the one doing it? I haven't seen or heard footage of him for a while now. The only thing I can think of is this column which tbh I wouldn't be surprised if it's an intern pool and they just stick his name on it. The real Garth Crooks is in a zip bag inside a locker somewhere while someone keeps claiming his pay cheque and expenses.

Still amazes me that he was chairman of the PFA. No idea what photos or footage he had of someone to manage to get that gig.

Well I think Everton's time in the Premiership is coming to an end. We need to score goal to survive, and playing McNeil and Maupay up front was just baffling on Saturday.

Looking at our remaining fixtures I struggle to see us winning any games, the Leicester game possibly being an exception.

Palace v Everton - L
Everton v Newcastle - L
Leicester v Everton - W
Brighton v Everton - L
Everton v Man City - L
Wolves v Everton - D
Everton v Bournemouth - D

I reckon maybe 5 points from our remaining fixtures. That would give us 32 points, is that enough to survive? Who knows. :(

I'm as pessimistic as you thundy, we have Leicester at home in a few games, even though I doubt we will win, and that is probably our easiest of the lot. I can only look at being a happier chap every weekend in the Championship, the PL is overrated!

A great summary here:

At least they are winding down his duties. He's off final score since 2022.

Interesting to see his thoughts on that linesman elbow incident though:

But we didn't keep up with City during covid times  The season most impacted by covid was 20/21 when we struggled massively, mainly due to a massive injury crisis. The seasons we competed with City and were winning or reaching cup finals were the 2 seasons prior to covid and last season.

Yep I said that last month when someone claimed, wrongly that SD had tightened them up. He hasn't. The only problem under Lampard was there was no one to score goals and that problem hasn't fixed itself with a new manager. Everton can't score more than one goal. You are playing championship football next year. Other teams can pull one out the bag or have a goal threat, Everton don't.

I think the club is on the financial cliff edge and like Leeds before them it will be years before they get close to recovering. Nice looking ground though. Quite ironic that they planned that stadium to last 50 years of rising sea level and then sunk the club anyway. Good riddance.

Is there a relegation predictions thread yet? We should all give our last 3 and see who gets it right. By next week predictions will be somewhat pointless I imagine.
