Well that escalated after a pretty tedious 3rd quarter.

Belter from JLingz. Baffling VAR decision when Ronaldo got cleaned out.

United desperately need a Declan Rice still...

What's true? West Ham weren't "easily" the better team. We managed to beat them despite not playing particularly well - but they aren't an easy team to beat.

This is why they're not contenders for the league imo. They can't control the midfield which explains the turgid, defensive approach they take against the other top teams, who generally pick them off or at least take a comfortable draw. Unless the other big teams have shockers against the worse sides, United won't win the league as they won't be in the top 2 or so of big 6 in games against each other

I think Rice is one of those players who is hard to appreciate unless you know what you are looking at and for. Hes in the right places at the right time and stops things happening before they escalate. Hes not like Kante who is very obvious in his buzzing around and energy levels but I think hes very good at what he does. Probably. Hard to say. One of those players you would really miss if he wasn't there, even if you can't quite put your finger on what he does.

Speaking as an expert in how a footballer feels. Coming on cold, not having touched the ball at all to get a feel I'm probably not ready for a penalty in the 95th minute.

There are very few players who could probably do that, like maybe Balotelli.

Even not having a massive game, Rice shut down so many United plays today, and made plenty of ground.

Fred just ran around after the ball like a headless chicken, and gave the ball away with sloppy passing....usual display. McTominay looked like someone that hasn't played.

I mean he had 2 interceptions and 1 tackle all game. Fred had 4 tackles and 1 interception and Soucek had 5 tackles and 0 interceptions. I just don't see anything special in him, let alone the 100m player they've talked about.

I just don't see him as progressive enough. He's tidy for sure and positionally quite astute but I think you need more to play in a really top side. Is he the player that allows you play Pogba in the midfield - ie replaces McFred. I just don't see it. Lets see what sort of season he has. What you can say is that he is probably the best English player in that position. However WHU can foxtrot oscar with their £100m price tag,

We can't control the midfield because control implies that you know what you are doing which we never do. Its all off the cuff. Good teams rip us to pieces if we try to go toe to toe because our positional sense and shape are non-existent. We get outplayed in the midfield game after game against a lot of sides in the league but players like Pogba and Fernandes play those killer balls that render that kind of moot because we still score.

Honestly, if we didn't turtle and hit good teams on the break we would get battered. We're the same defensively though. The only time we look half handy in defence is when we pack our 18 yard box and actually fight defensively. Teams are constantly going into dead ends against us and coming out with the ball because we don't tackle and we don't pressure. It happened today on so many occasions. 3-4 guys around the WH player and no one actually makes him do something before he is ready and then suddenly 3 of our players are out of position and the ball is still with the opposition.

If you replaced our team with the quality of players WH have we would genuinely get relegated with the football we play. Its so disjointed and we are so much less than the sum of our parts.
