Well we did needed a winger
Why? Buying one winger is mental when you've got two good strikers unless you're going to play 4-4-2. The system which suits most Arsenal players best does not involve playing with wingers. You need a decent CAM (if Ozil's not used), a decent CDM, and decent CBs way more than you needed a winger, and that's been the case for years now.

We sold Walcott and lacked width the previous season. We needed a winger, saka would have been fine as that winger but we already bought pepe mate.

All of which only involve playing one of your best two players in their best position - with Laca and Auba there you have to play two up top. For me, I'd look at a narrow 4 man midfield with Xhaka, Guendozi, Ceballos and Ozil at the top of the diamond. It puts your best creator on the pitch, plays your two best players up front in their best positions, allows your full backs, both of whom can attack, to get wide, and gives you solidity in the middle.

No we can't play narrow. That's what messed up Wenger. Became too predictable and many here where critical of arsenal being too narrow

Liverpool's forward players are narrow. Barca are narrow. City are pretty narrow, Sterling no longer plays like an out and out winger. I struggle to name a particularly successful side at the moment which does play with wingers. Becoming too predictable doesn't equate to needing width.

City and Liverpool play from the wings. Not always in the middle

Yes, but through their full backs more than genuine wingers.

And regardless, my main point is that signing Pepe for £70m was a terrible idea when the heart of your team is so weak. Pepe could be the best winger on the planet, but with your defence and midfield he would still have been the wrong signing

Yea and I did say we should have spent that on a cb. But I also said we needed a winger. Cb more than a winger though
