Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 5th April 2023]

4 points off 3rd-5th now, and I think we need to still play all three of them.

Didn't enjoy seeing Caicedo having to get subbed off though, hope he's okay for the weekend away to Spurs.

Well I suppose when your last 3 matches against Chelsea have all been 0-0, including matches in seasons where you've been playing well, its no surprise that its also 0-0 in a season where you're playing badly.

Why is the game even on, surely Leeds v Forest would have been better being a relegation battle. Though I guess it was down for TV before it got called off

I can see Villa getting Europe this season. The last game against Brighton will be massive in that respect.

Don't get me wrong, I think we've gotten a touch lucky in our recent run of 'form'. Martinez has made some miracle saves and not to take anything away from Watkins but most of his goals have come from inattentive defending and poor keeping. But I can't argue that Emery has us playing with a lot more confidence. Shifting Ings has put a real stamp on Watkins, as has bolstering McGinn with the captaincy role. Our back line has always been decent but I really think it's up there as one of the best in the league at the moment. Konsa and Mings are a dream and Luiz just looks a complete nightmare to play against.

I still have my reservations about Bailey and I think everyone's waiting for Kamara to really go on a mad run of form, but having Traore and Duran as super subs is an absolute dream. Emery always makes really optimistic changes when they're needed to really go for the kill instead of just sitting back and praying that we can hold out for a draw (see Traore last night with that stunner).

I know a lot of fans are worried about Watkins getting snapped up at the end of the season but I just can't see it now. Even if Arsenal win the league and make a move on him and we finish only having threatened Europe, why would he leave? There's too much promise for next season under Emery and his role is pretty much cemented regardless of any miracle signings we may bring in during the Summer. Selling Ings (who incidentally had better numbers then Watkins presale) was a statement of trust in him. It would be poor form for him to run off now.

My only concern with the rest of the season is we have no 'easy' fixtures after the Forest game. 7 of those fixtures will be teams fighting for Europe, Fulham will be fighting for every point to regain lost ground and Wolves is never an easy game even without them clawing to get away from relegation.

Sturridge seems like he would be a really good pundit. Perhaps they should be looking for ex-players like him rather than the absolute weapons they seem to find at the moment. Can articulate his thoughts. Doesn't sound like he is braindead like so many of them.

Watching last night I thought Chelsea were about as potent in the box as a geriatric coming out of the shower after 10 pints, then Havertz resorts to trying to score by stuffing it in with his hand....

Flukaku could be the answer in the sense that at least he's a striker who can stick a few goals away in mid-table clashes like last night. It's bonkers that Chelsea are spending a quarter of a billion pounds every transfer window and still don't really have a number 9. Reminds me a bit of when Wenger was forever buying tricky wingers / CAMs etc
