That’s my worry, if we don’t recruit well or enough in the summer, we could be in West Ham’s position next season.
Thought we could have played a great deal better in the first half, but Man Utd penned us in and we were simply losing too many second balls.
Second half much better and could have nicked a point, but unfortunately the big chance we had fell to the wrong player... I reckon Toney would have buried it.
Anyway... I'll still take 4-1 (agg) against United this season

I don’t believe a huge amount of signings is require. 3 very good ones will do.
Like how do we improve the best defence in the league?
Proper LB than that leaves Dan to cover CB and LB?

Marcus Thuram would be perfect up front. That would leave us with a very flexible front line.
Anderson has to go out on loan. Lad needs game time.

You’ll also need to make the difficult decision wether to stay with Howe or go with someone with a bigger pedigree. Short term Howe has done very, very well for you, long term is he won’t have what’s necessary to take you to the top.

Howe is domestic level but to operate on a European stage you’ll need someone who can take you to the next level. Howe isn’t it no matter how well he’s doing THIS season. This season you’ve had a bit of a free pass, next season it gets real.

The club will stick with him until results don’t go his way. I don’t think they’ll remove him early, he has the dressing room 100%

They won’t remove him yet but they will as soon as results start slipping. An expectation has now been set with Champions League football, so with both Liverpool and Chelsea possibly returning back to where you would expect them to be next season pressure will be applied. It’s just an inevitable reality of football.

Absolutely disagree with that, Pep/klopp/conte weren’t just born as good managers they had to learn, there is no reason why Howe can’t do the same and it’s pretty arrogant to think otherwise

He’s also not afraid to learn and adapt. He’s proven that this season.

It’s pretty naive to think otherwise. As I said Newcastle have done very well this season but next season will be different. You’ll have European football, you’ll have more competition and you’ll have more pressure. Potter is the latest example of that.

Potter went to a problem child club and had 10 players he didn’t need thrown at him! Howe came here to build a team which he is in the process of doing, as long as we make the right signings to ensure squad depth to play in all the competitions we‘re in there shouldn’t be a problem.
That’s pretty much my thoughts on the Howe / Potter comparisons.
There’s no way NUFC are chucking 600 million at players with our commercial revenue streams.

You have wealthy owners who will throw money at the club but, they will want a return for that and behind the public appearance of wanting to build a team, they will want success in a similar fashion to the other state owned club. Howe will be gone as soon as results start slipping or as soon as a sexier manager becomes available. Howe is domestic level and eventually you will acknowledge that.

we don’t know though so we so you can’t say “eventually we’ll see that” as future is unknown. Maybe he’ll be great, maybe he won’t, the truth will probably be somewhere in the middle, hopefully nearer the top end!
He has full support if team / club and is constantly praised by all press, pundits, etc that he doing things the right way, including coaching and developing existing talent and not just chucking cash at stars, so we can’t say for now that won’t continue.

Howe will be treated like any other manager at a club with expectations. If he is broadly meeting them he will be given time. If it looks like he isn't up to the task anymore he will be pushed.
I've always rated Howe but hes still massively surprised me this season. They won't be looking to replace him unless he gives them a reason too and nor should they.
Its been a bizarre season and I don't think this seasons performance would get United or Newcastle into top four like it probably will this season but who knows. I can't see Liverpool and Chelsea being so abject next year.
Anyway, more competition for top 4 is never a bad thing.

It would be nice to have a top top English football manager though if he can make it. Terry Venables was most likely the last top one we had and at a push Harry Redknapp.
