Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 23rd Aug 2021]

Kind of feel sorry for Norwich. They play a good style of football then end up getting their first two games against Liverpool and City. Brentford who finished third had a far better deal with their opening games and some times early season form is vital when it comes to relegation battles.

Why on earth have Sky picked Brighton - Watford over Leeds - Everton as a TV game today?

Can only show a certain number of games from each team. IIRC each team has to be on a TV 10 times per season. Man Utd and Liverpool will pretty much always be the most, so Brighton and Watford v them two will likely be TV games one or the other most likely.

Leeds you'd imagine will play everyone of the big TV 7 (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Newcastle and Spurs) home and away so that's 14 fixtures from them right off the bat. They've also been picked to play Burnley away next week.

Late kick off Saturday, Brighton v Watford will have ticked a few boxes as a 3rd or 4th pick.

I'm aware of the minimum number of tv matches each side must be given but there will surely be enough opportunities to show Brighton and Wartford in more interesting games (for the neutral at least) throughout the season. Brighton vs a top 6 side will have some interest and Brighton vs anybody later in the season when there's a relegation battle and or a battle for European spots is also more interesting.

At this stage of the season Brighton - Watford is a totally meaningless game to anybody that doesn't support Brighton or Watford. Leeds - Everton on the other hand is a pretty decent game.

So Brighton and Watford should only be shown against the big clubs when they're likely on the receiving end of a spanking...? sounds pretty elitist to me.

Where did I say that? The likes of Brighton and Watford will get the bare minimum number of TV picks (or close to) so pick the games that will be most interesting.

Some of those games will be vs Utd and Liverpool (I don't recall Brighton getting spanked in those games last season) and some will be vs the likes of Everton at the back end of the season when one or both are chasing a European spot or in a relegation battle. To use up one of their TV picks vs Watford seems totally pointless to me.

It was the same all game. Motd seemed to think Klopp was complaining about the lack of soft fouls but he was very specific about what he was taking issue with. He said that if you want to stop soft pens etc then fine but it was the aerial fouls, when Matip or VVD were jumping for a header and Barnes was just barging into them that needed to stop because they're going to cause injuries.
