That’s even worse than the Ederson non penalty on Ryan Frazer
Ok how about another rule where a striker can take a shot, miss then if hes taken out its a penalty?
I think this ones harsh but i say it everyweek...strikers are constantly taken out after they shoot.
Meh, win’s a win but didn’t deserve it at all. Lack of game management and the form of Matip is a real concern, VVD and Fabinho looked off it too.
Leicester lucky to escape with a point in the end, Brighton with another draw
Not a penalty in my books. For me, a penalty is for when a player denies a goalscoring opportunity or its a clear and obvious foul that prevents them continuing play in the box.
If you are sprinting full pace and you get the tiniest of touches before the defender and that touch sends the ball out of play then the "foul" has not given the defender an advantage. If you shoot and are then taken out then in 99% of cases that foul has no impeded your shot and you haven't lost any advantage.
The problem is that the way I would like the game to be refereed for penalties doesn't follow a simple set of rules. The current rules are basically "if there is any contact in the box its a penalty".
There is no good way to do it unfortunately but we have gone way too far towards giving attackers a massive advantage.
"If you shoot and are then taken out then in 99% of cases that foul has no impeded your shot and you haven't lost any advantage."
That doesn't matter.
A penalty is a foul in the box isn't it...not denying a goal scoring opportunity. Simply a direct free kick offence in the box.
If Kante today has the ball, passes it to Mount but Kane goes steaming through the back of him is it a foul?
Yes
If Kante misplaces said pass and its going out for a throw in but again is taken out by Kane is it a foul?
Yes
I'm not suggesting my plan is perfect or even workable but just because there is contact in the box doesn't mean it should be a penalty. I'm not arguing that the rules are being incorrectly applied, I am suggesting I don't like the rules.
The problem with this is the punishment for a foul in your own half isn't the same as a foul in the box. A free kick in your own box is worthless compared to a free kick just outside the opposition penalty area. We already treat fouls differently depending on where they occur on the pitch and the how much of an advantage they give the offending team. I would like to see that logic applied in the box. The problem is that its very hard to do.
Atrocious from us today. We’ve badly lost our way in recent weeks, but it doesn’t help when your best two midfielders insist on having brain farts and leaving us decimated in the middle.
Potential red card.
Not watching, havent see it but red all day imo.
