Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [26th - 28th December 2022]

They’re both dire at the moment.

Nunez is like Lukaku. Liverpool can/will get away with it though because he’s getting several chances which is a positive and the players they’ve spent big on have turned out to be brilliant. Also helps that they are actually a good side.
Nunez has 9 goals and 4 assists in 20 games...id take that.

Casemiro been a rock for us. About the only decent buy we have made in recent times. Shame he only has about 3 seasons in him.
Varane has been alright, as have Erikesen and Martinez (these two have been better than just alright).

I moaned about all of them in the summer, based on how poorly we'd bought similar players previously ('big' names, has-beens), happy to be proven wrong. Clearly we need more to push on to higher levels but we're a world away from where we were previously.

Casemiro, Eriksen, Varane, Martinez, Malacia all in the win column for me. Also Garnacho getting into the first team.

Antony and Sancho are the let downs.

We're a miles better team with the new signings.

Our signings this summer have all been good so far with eriksen, Martinez and casemiro being great. Well I guess dubravka hasn't done much yet but we'll let him off for that one

And should have had more, it’s difficult to get stats from cup games but in the premier league he’s had more big chances than anyone else. He’s also way behind his xG. Good centre forward run 1 or 2 above it. Average run level with it, poor ones are under it. Sample size probably a bit low to make such a huge judgement so early.

He’s a fun player to watch though but i just can’t get over those lukaku vibes.

A pretty good night on the whole.

January transfer window is going to be interesting for all clubs I think...
Realistically, we should have a 2-3 year plan, if we want to get back/near to the top that is. Every window counts, I guess! Another £250m wisely spent, could it get us near City? 350? Might be going off topic.

De Gea, Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia/Shaw, Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes, Garnacho, Rashford, plus one decent striker, we'd have a pretty good 1st XI.

The bench is too weak to compete for a whole season though, lots of dead wood still to get rid of. I think Fred is worth keeping as a squad player...but otherwise....

Antony can come good. It's like he's being coached to not try and beat players and go wide at the moment for whatever reason. He's more effective when he's more central.

Absolutely he should have but that will come. To have 9 goals and 4 assists after 20 appearances is a very good return. He will only improve imo.

Oh and agreed super fun to watch and he's getting into some very good positions.
