Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th April - 4th May 2023]

Honestly 3/5 of those games are against teams that feel like they (the opposition) have to win.

I'm nervous for sure!

Even though they need the win, I can't see us losing against Leeds. They are truly awful at the back and concede for fun. With Isak and Wilson's form we win there I think. I am nervous but believe we have it in the bag.

This team have the mentality to get through. Unless we suddenly rename to Newcastle Hotspur.

Just catching up on yesterday's theatrics, really starting to dislike Klopp. He's gone from being passionate and funny to an absolute ***** the way he goes on with officials.

The game at grassroot level has issues with people abusing and even assaulting officials and he's promoting that kind of behaviour.

I like Klopp but he has always had that in him. There's that famous outburst against an official back in his Dortmund days when he went full on Mitrovic, numerous clashes with officials, and he even had to apologise to a translator for an outburst.

Easy to be a nice guy when your team is on top, very much a heart on sleeve type of guy.

Yeah Klopp hasn’t really changed, I’m sure it swings with current form but ultimately will throw a wobbly if the refereeing is bad (or windy)

Grass roots football is largely just ***** due to those people being ****Please fully star out swear words**** and/or raised by them.

I have had this butt clenching dread about tonight's match all day worse than some of the England internationals. It's only relegation, we've had it before. It's not the end of the world. For some reason I seem to subliminally care about this match on a visceral level. Strange. Or it could just be the curry we had last night. Time will tell either way.

Not seen his Dortmund days then, makes his Liverpool days look like Paul Scholes doing punditry.

I was wrong last year, I was convinced Everton were doomed. I don't think there's anyone dross enough to save them this year. I think even Leeds will be able to not win a game and be saved by Everton. Lose tonight and they are done. Last years champagne ready. Don't let me down Leicester.

They go down and they are done as a club, financial ruin awaits. Hopefully docked points next year for cooking the books as well. 400m in debt, no saleable big players anymore and a half finished ground. Moshiri talked up European football, my god he must regret getting involved.

There's a good article on the BBC explaining some of it.

The new stadium could ruin them if they drop. Just ask Coventry. They had to sell theirs and still haven't got it back. Having suffered the misery of ground sharing and the like they tried to buy theirs back but Mike Ashley got his grubby mitts on it and is now leasing it to them. However they had a finished stadium. Everton's is not. They can't sell it as an assett, and I'm not sure there is enough interest in a stadium in that location from other clubs (unless there is a rugby league club looking for a new home?)

I've been saying to all my mates since Jan, we are going to need someone top drawer on the Longstaff position long term, someone to that'll push us higher. Don't think we have anyone else in the squad that plays there? Take nothing away from longstaff, he's actually been incredible this season. All he needed to do was add more goals, he's missed 9-10 cracking chances this season. Who knows, he could push on from here and become even better. After all he is playing alongside BG. i feel that position has to be a priority in the summer. Hope we can limp through to clinch CL.
Woot just spotted the good news.

No break on Longstaff scan :)

Don’t think we see Maxi in a Newcastle shirt again. Still not training

Seeding is based on the last 5 years UEFA coefficient, which as you say will be 0 for you. For the good of the PL you probably should let Liverpool catch you tbf.

On a semi serious note, it could actually be bad for the PL if Newcastle do get a hard group and get knocked out early. From 24/25 there's 2 extra CL spots up for grabs for the two Leagues that perform best in Europe the previous season, which the PL nearly always are. A bad showing from PL clubs could cost the League an extra CL spot next season.
We got a Joelinton.

If we get into Champions League.

We smash them
