Are people really trying to compare Haaland to Messi?
Why not, it's an interesting comparison? He's 22 years old and their comparative goals and assists in the so far are...
Messi (apps/Goals/Assists)
18 - 34 / 10 / 6
19 - 41 / 19 / 4
20 - 56 / 21 / 17
21 - 60 / 41 / 19
22 - 62 / 48 / 11
Total - 253 / 139 / 57
Haaland
18 - 10 / 5 / 1
19 - 40 / 44 / 10
20 - 41 / 41 / 12
21 - 30 / 29 / 8
22 - 45 / 51 / 8
Total - 166 / 170 / 39
Contributions to games ratio he's way up on Messi and that's without considering his Dortmund team is nowhere near the class of Messi's Barca team and then the competitiveness of the premier league generally compared to La Liga.
Messi was a wonder and magician to watch, however Haaland has a similar ability in that he can translate his thoughts to action in split seconds which is scary. Look at the goal yesterday, in the moment he recognised the ball was bobbling and watched the keeper which dictated his chip.
Is he as good as Messi at his peak, no. Messi became the focal point of that Barca through the years and would be everywhere on the pitch.
However both are having a similar impact at this point, players can't get near them or phase them and they're dominating their opponent when they're in possession. Likewise teams are going to have to adjust to focus on him which will give his team mates more space - it's a snowball effect of great players drawing attention.
It's brilliant to see and watch him do his thing just like it was with Messi however I don't think he'll have the longevity of someone like Messi, I think Haaland has injury niggles and we've seen him withdrawn from games at 60 minutes and the likes.
