Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [3rd - 6th December 2021]

Thought Villa put on another good performance yesterday. In truth we could have ran away with it in the second half. Nakamba is really coming into his own under Gerrard, him and McGinn weight everything perfectly at the moment. Can't really point out a poor performance from anyone in the last 4 games. We just need to nail those first half nerves.

As for that goal decision, it is what it is. If the rules state that it was a foul then the right decision was made. It's not particularly context sensitive though and if we'd come away with just a point then I'd likely be a lot more aggravated :p

Re the Villa disallowed goal, Dale Johnson's doing his weekly VAR thread on twitter right now. Long story short, the keeper only has to be deemed in control of the ball, he doesn't have to have two hands on the ball. And a keeper is deemed in control of the ball if they have at least 1 hand on the ball and the ball is in contact with another surface, either the ground of another body part. So had the ball been off the ground then the goal would have stood but as soon as it's grounded, with the keepers hand on top, the keeper is then in control of the ball.

Yeah having watched it back a few times now I think it's a reasonably fair decision. Even Gerrard said in his post match interview that once it was explained to him it made sense. Poor Schmeichel got some stick from the Holte end when he came back on. Had to get an official to walk behind the goal to stop people throwing things.
