Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 18th September 2023]

Dyche seems legit good bloke but his system is just isn’t going to cut it in this day and age.

In other news I was reading about their (777) take over. Seem like a really good bunch of people and company.

Can’t see it getting any better for them any time soon. New stadium in the championship though

777 seem a good company?

they've been involved in loads of dodgy allegations they might not even pass the fair and proper test

There are claims - which are denied - hanging over 777 of fraud, illegal loans and failing to pay bills. In the new Premier League directors' test, it states a 'disqualifying event' can be actions by a group that 'include offences involving violence, corruption, fraud, tax evasion and hate crimes'

great owners :o

Well that hasn't stopped anything before, it would be a bit odd to single out the American bandits for this over say the Middle East.

I'm hoping for 5 or 6 more teams to fall into American hands and they can bring about no relegation and a 10m Salary cap before the end of the season.

This guy gets it.

Remember the venkys wanted it and tried to push for it when Blackburn were going down.

Corrr they seem right up the PLs street. They'll be fast tracked.

I've gotta say that finish from Trossard was truly excellent. The sort of goal that goes under the radar a bit and will be forgotten about by Christmas but the technique to open the body and angle it like that is absolute top notch.
When you see the 'normal' TV camera angle, it looks OK, but when you see the camera from behind the goal you appreciate just how special it was. Watching it several times you can even see the follow through is adding something to it, to get a bit of elevation. Very hard to time that so it goes in the top far corner rather than either hooking it towards the near post or completely slicing it off the outside of the foot and having people wondering if it will fade out for a GK or a throw-in.

I didn't want to see it again this year, but I think it's going to be hard to see anything past city again. It is really early to say and injuries etc can happen, but they just look better, yet again.

The Doku signing looks like a master stroke for the price they paid, he's lightning quick over the first 5 yards, skills forever and the key thing out of all that, he has an end product, his crosses and goal were all great. We've seen it in the past with Traore, wright-phillips, Saint-Maximan, players like that could do things with no end product, this guys different. All for 55m Alvarez seems to have progressed, Foden has life again with more game time and Grealish hasn't even been in the fold. They upgraded Laporte with Gvardiol and somehow Walker doesn't seem to age. Then they have the kid to gel in from Wolves.

Love the way Brighton play, Arsenal look solid, spurs are different under Ange, hope they continue it through the season. Pool look to have some real options this year too, just think the massive chink is the armor is that DCM role.

Man City are clearly the best team. They don't really have [m]any weaknesses... good manager, good keeper, good defence, good holding midfielder, lots of options for attacking midfielders, and the one potential problem area up front with Aguero leaving they fixed with Haaland. They also have strength in depth and an established playstyle, plus loads of money so they can buy in January if needed.

Most of their 'rivals' seem to be in transition in some shape or other - Liverpool have had quite a high turnover of players this year, Chelsea need some time for Poch to get to grips with it and sift through his billion pounds worth of players, MU have problems off the field and I'm unconvinced by their defence anyway, Spurs have started well but any team would miss Kane and again new manager needs to bed in. Arsenal have a bit more stability in terms of Arteta's been able to craft things how he wants and Rice is a good addition, so I'd say they aren't in transition more they are just a bit behind on quality and will need to adapt to CL football again.

Seeing who wins the league will be boring, I'm more interested to see how far Brighton can go.

I can quite easily see Man City doing the quad this year and no one is going to match them in Europe. Like you said both Arsenal and Liverpool look beatable and a lot of their wins have been a bit of a struggle whereas City are just inevitable.

Gah... Rico Henry out for the season with a ruptured ACL.

That's three of our four most consistent players from last season missing in Rico, Raya and Toney. Henry's so important to us, can't replace him. Going to be interesting to see how we go from here.

Him, Dasilva, Baptiste, Damsgaard, Ajer, etc. A nice little injury crisis forming.

Both won trophies in their first season yet ETH qualified for champions league in his first season. ETH has also won league titles and got to the semi final of the Champions League (Was extremely unlucky not to get to the final) and currently has a 64% win percentage with Man Utd. Arteta is around 57%.

It is funny how even after all these years without winning a league do all the trolls come out of the woodwork when United are doing bad yet go crawling back under their rock when things go bad for them. Arsenal haven't won a league for twenty years have no European silverware to talk of in their history and bottled the league whilst having 50 points at the half way point. Even Manchester City and Chelsea have a bigger European pedigree than Arsenal and they didn't even exist as a competitive force when Arsenal last won the league.

Clutching at straws there fella, league cup + cl < fa cup without cl when you’re not ready for the CL at all.

Arsenal didn’t bottle the league. They done stupidly well and punched well above their weight in order to keep up with city for a good chunk of the season. Would have been a major shock if they won the league.
