Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19th - 21st October 2024]

While the challenges might have been identical, the circumstances around them weren't. With the Saliba red the ball is running directly through on goal with White around 20 yards away - the Bournemouth player would have had a completely free run straight at goal with no chance of an Arsenal player challenging him. With the challenge yesterday the ball isn't running through on goal but closer to the direction of the corner flag and there's a Chelsea defender within 5 yards - Jota would have been running away from goal which would have made it far easier for the Chelsea defender to get back into a covering position before he can get a shot away.

If City are found guilty of cheating in any past season, then that means countless clubs and players have lost money and trophies. They would then sue and the whole thing would rumble on for decades. Very tricky situation all round.
How many clubs sued Juventus or any of the other clubs found breaking rules?

City paying off the Ref for this one? Remind me of the Arsenal goal last season that stood despite interference. Sometimes they go for you, sometimes they don't. That happened before VAR and will continue to happen for ever more.

Not sure he would have caught up, he's directly behind so in essence the same path to follow to goal...but it is what it is, I just want to see some consistency, not complaining about the Saliba red, and obviously didn't want Liverpool to win lol

Let's be honest, if the punishment is severe enough, then the other clubs would be satisfied (IMO), it tarnishes most of the City achievements and if the the punishment was hard enough then, fine.

This is why the direction the ball is traveling matters. Colwill doesn't have to follow the same path as Jota. Jota has to run away from goal (where the ball is going) before cutting back inside and running at goal. Colwill can just run straight back towards goal, shortening the distance he has to travel to be in a position to prevent Jota having a clear run on goal.

I'm not saying it 100% wasn't a red card as we've certainly seen them given but it's far from as clear as the Saliba one.

Yeah, I get what you're saying, but the ball was dropping to his feet (if he wasn't pulled down) as it landed not far in front of Colwill, it wasn't a punt for him to chase. Anyway, it's semantics...another example of a nuance where the Arsenal example is a red but anyone else 'it's completely different'. which is getting as tiring and as AFC players doing stoopid things.

The thing that "concerns" (!) me. Is I think even if Chelsea had equalised, I think Liverpool would still have found a way to win.

Basically they had another gear in them imo.

Thought Chelsea looked good without really threatening the keeper too much. Some of that is down to Liverpool being much better defensively structured this season but I'd be encouraged if I was a Chelsea fan.

What the hell has happened to Palace?

Think losing Andersen and Olise has had a big impact on them. Mateta also seems to have gone off the boil / been replaced by Nketiah.

Mateta seemed to be massively important for them last season but then again I'm not watching Palace every week so maybe there was room for improvement outside of just the goals.
