Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 27th November 2023]

2. Your improvement in firm and addition of confidence seems to have coincided with Maguire's return. He's not the world's greatest footballer, but he's shown an unbelievable amount of character and I think he deserves a lot of credit.

Ye kudus to Maguire he wasnt his best but got his head down and playing ok of late which is good to see.

I'm going to get argument from United fans, but two things:

1. You've been beaten this season by teams in and around the top 7, and beaten teams outside of that. Which to me says that you're the lower end of the top 7 (but you are in the top 7).

2. Your improvement in firm and addition of confidence seems to have coincided with Maguire's return. He's not the world's greatest footballer, but he's shown an unbelievable amount of character and I think he deserves a lot of credit.

For point 1 we've had a lot of fine margin games. The Spurs game we were denied a stonewall penalty and went on to lose despite creating better chances. Similarly Arsenal if Garnacho is 1/2 a mm back then it could be a different result, we were also denied another penalty (see a theme here?) City we we were well beaten but it all started with City getting a very dodgy penalty that isn't given in any other game.

For 2. Tough to say, the number of games is too small. Maguire has come in for a far easier run of games (and we've still conceded a lot of goals). December will be the big test for him. I'll say nothing against his personality, he's been nothing but professional in the face of some of the worst harassment I've ever seen for a footballer. Who else has had foreign governments mocking him?

The theme seems to be an inability to accept that there are teams around which are better than United, which I'd argue is (a) quite surprising considering the last decade, and (b) symptomatic of everything that's wrong at the club at present

Not sure I hear that from any United fans. We all know that our performances this season have been very poor and that we are fortunate not to be completely out of contention for a Top 4. However, the league don't lie and things can change quickly. Spurs were top, three games later they are only 2 points ahead of United and look very beatable. The top three look to be City, Arsenal and Liverpool which many would have expected at the start of the season. Places 5-7 look wide open. Most teams we've played this season have played better football but we have found a way and shown at least some character to get points from games where we've been so poor. The club is a mess in many ways but we are still contending for top four which looks like our best level for now.

Bar a battering by Villa first game of the season. Everton haven't lost by more than 1 goal with a full 11 plus away from home to Everton I will take it.

Real test will be Wednesday night if we come back from a result then we can starting being pleased.
Wanna add any more to that lmao. Maybe "when the suns shining"?

That being said it is a good result considering Evertons form and the whole "Corrupt" nonsense.

Sorry Everton I jinxed yahs.

Only watched the first half. How did that end up 0-3. Everton were all over Manu?

Hah more baffling is how the **** is Manu still the most inform team in the league. They been woeful!!!

Will be very interesting to see where Villa end up in the new year. Bournemouth away then City and Arsenal at home before Christmas... Even with our impeccable home record this season, I'd be happy if we get 6 points before playing United on boxing day. Very much looking forward to that game. Wouldn't be surprised if that decides where we sit for the rest of the season.

Starting at the table now. Trying not to think about the fact we'd be first if we'd beaten Forest before the break...

I have absolutely no idea how we're only six points off the top.

Asked if he knows what a clear and obvious error is, Dyche replied: "I will be trying to speak to them [referees' body]. What is it? We were told the directive was to give the referee more power.

"The referee made a very strong decision and the power is taken away. I will ring them and ask: 'Can you explain to me again what is a clear and obvious error?'

"Well Sean, we consider giving a striker a yellow card instead of awarding a stone wall penalty a clear and obvious error. You should also thank your lucky stars you weren't playing with 10 men after that as well."

I love how Dyche complained about modern football making that a penalty as if it has ever not been a penalty in my lifetime.
It’s mad how he can think that’s not clear and obvious, thats the whole reason for VAR right there, initially I though it was a dive as well.
