Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 3rd December 2023]

Re the Haaland/Grealish, I got the impression the ref went to blow and didn't then signalled he was playing advantage. Then he blew a few seconds later.

Confused by the red cards / lack of them today as well. I don't understand why the Jones and Rashford ones were given earlier this season, and Gallagher's first yellow and the one on Bruno Fernandes weren't red. They're all incredibly similar tackles. Have they decided there have been too many red cards this season?

I think the Jones and Rashford ones were soft, but again it's the lack of consistency that's really aggravating

He also signed and has stuck by Antony and Onana who are beyond useless. Cut ties with them. Every other manager would have just bitten the bullet already and dropped them. Whats he playing at. He’s also playing Martial ahead of Hojlund. These a bigger issues than what’s happening at board level at the moment.
Antony is one of our better players, certainly deserve the right wing spot over Rashford who looks like he need an extended period off. Always works hard which is more than can be said for others.

Onana, Reguilon, Shaw, Maguire, AWB, Mainoo, Fernandes, McSauce, Garnacho, Hojlund, Antony..... This is our best XI on current form.....there is a reason we're sat mid-table. A smattering of class, surrounded by meh.

Fernandes going by the rules wasn’t a red. It’s a yellow. Don’t even think he got a yellow tho?

I knew we wouldn't beat Bournemouth. Can never seem to beat them away. Real missed opportunity this weekend.

It's a little annoying. I don't want to bemoan a great season with some moments I'll remember forever, but it's frustrating that we continue to get points against 'better' sides but can't secure wins against teams we should theoretically be pulling apart. That's 5 points we've let slip recently (Forest and Bournemouth). Not only does that mean we'd be sitting pretty in first, but we'd also have a bit of a buffer against the tougher fixtures we've got over the next month. The specter of 'the big fixtures' is constantly haunting our 'easier' games. We have to play what's in front of us instead of benching our best players in anticipation for tougher games. Zaniolo was poor yesterday and as much as I like Digne, Moreno secures the left so much better.

It's a tough one, but as I've said before I think wherever we are in the table come January is likely where we'll stay for the rest of the season. One things for sure though, we don't deserve Champions league if we can't tidy up our away form. I'm bored of praising Martinez every week for keeping us in games.

What ever happened to giving players yellows for screaming in the refs face and generally abusing them. That lasted about 3 weeks at the start of the season.

They actually reiterated it 2 weeks ago. Lasted long didn't it.

I said it at the time, City were lucky a fair few of them werent getting yellow cards. Refs need to grow a pair.

Dunk got a yellow then a straight red, fair enough he may have said something bad for the red, but how Haaland wasn’t given a yellow is absurd.

According to match stats, Caicedo wasn’t even booked yesterday? Could have sworn he was! Makes it even weirder he wasnt booked in the 2nd half!

Yep. And it would stop it in a few weeks if they were consistent. It dried up very quickly for a while at the start of the season when they started giving out cards for dissent and then, unsurprisingly once players saw it was being ignored they were right back at it.

Good point.

But I think that will happen next season.

Sin bins etc.

Not sure how I feel about that as love it or hate it, it will take some of the "drama" away from the game.

Newcastle and Manu both got away with professional fouls on Saturday without booking. Ref soon went to his pocket for Joelinton looking angry at the lines man!!

Are you genuinely making a complaint that Joelinton got a card. If I was a ref the first thing I would do before the game is tell him that hes one foul away from a red card. The guy gets away with murder every game.

Nope. Just pointing out that the Ref on Saturday was happy to let players away with fouls but first sign of decent he was straight into the pocket.
