Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1 - 3rd December 2012]

Well Liverpool are all about suarez! He's their best player by a mile and hoof it to him pays off a treat.

1-0 flatters both sides as no one really looked like scoring. 2.10 a pint makes the day worth while though (though not supporting Liverpool).

We should well batter reading 8-7 next week.

Does anyone else get massively angry that Harry always gives interviews that adds seperation between him and the result/performance (that is the players' fault) but allows him to take credit for any positives. He did it at spurs and he is already at it at QPR.

"If we can get them (the players) playing properly" being a case in point.

Rageface

Get the **** out of my club you ****ing fat ****.
The fans hate you, the players clearly aren't bothered by you and you don't have a ****ing clue.
I've stayed away for a week to gather my thoughts, but **** me, anyone criticising match attending fans for having a go at Benitez need to **** off and support Arsenal.
Never been so angry over a game of football.
Benitez out.

It is funny, Roy didn't even get that treatment

What? Yet people get away with being indirectly racist/trolls in GD all the time, seems a bit backward

I dont know about that, if thats the case then use the RTM function;). I was saying it to Nate to save him from getting suspended....dont shoot the messenger eh??

Weird, why would that be bannable?

Because its a boring stupid meme and people were getting feed up of being posted constantly when they didnt have much to contribute.

Where were arsenal this time last season?

Well to be honest if it wasnt for RVP last season we would have never got 4th. I was listening to the pundits on SSN after the Arsenal game and Charlie Wilson i think nailed it on the head that we fans are getting fed up of Arsenal selling our best players every yr. Instead of going forward we are going backwards as DM constantly says. Go back 7-8 yrs ago when we were at our best....none of these players we have now would have got into the squad and thats the clanger there that Arsenal are in a real danger of becoming a mid table team.

What annoys me and angers me is that the teams we should be hammering into the ground we arent ie we either lose or draw, prime example Villa, Everton and Swansea...we have a much better stronger squad than those 3 teams but yet we struggle to score goals and when we do we cant defend for ****.

I got the impression they were behind the pack like this last season and came storming back. Might be wrong; they certainly closed us down after February (though that was partly due to Spurs bottling it big time too)!

We were, had a terrible start to the season but we soon got into the swing of things.

This season we look so lacklustre that its not even funny. Hell when we beat the Spurs a few weekends ago, we had a massive helping hand that Spurs were down to 10 men lol...there was no way i personally think that we would have beaten Spurs had Adebayor not been sent off.

But saying that we do tend to do well against the Spurs, i just wish we would do that week in week out.

Like i said i cant see how we will get 4th with the way we drop points left, right and centre and to teams we SHOULD be beating...its as simple as that. Whether its Wenger or whatever, something definitely needs to change but it wont because the Arsenal board are happy to see us be profitable and get 4th for CL football at the expense of trophies and titles.

I'm sorry, but that point doesn't stick. There's 20 teams in this league and everyone has to win or lose occasionally. There's no divine right to win just because you go to work, work hard, pay for your ticket and sit freezing your backside off.

Typically there's about 13 teams a season in this league stuck with mediocre football. All their fans do exactly the same to go and see their clubs as you do yours and the majority of them haven't seen much reward for their commitment to their clubs over the past 20 years.

Yes I acknowledge that Arsenal have some of the most expensive tickets in the league. But they've also had some of the best players over the past 20 years. They also have one of, if not the best quality stadium in the country at the moment and the club is financially very stable unlike most.

You're having a bad start to the season, get over it.

Im sorry but this is not the point. I and every arsenal fan is not expecting us to win every game btu what we expect is for our team to try and perform and play with passion, determination and play as if they want to be there on the pitch to win the game.

That is not what we got from this game. Any fan regardless if its a arsenal fan or leyton orient fan, they will get ****ed off and angry at there club for various reasons.

Are u telling me that if your team did very poor you would not be upset? mad? fustrated? are u gong to dance outside your street naked celebrating a poor result and performance?

Arsenal has obviously gone backwards from the year of the invincibles. However so long as Arsenal can (and they have) stabilise at consistent CL qualification then you will be able to recruit top talent (even if it subsequetly moves on) repeatedly. Essentially there will always be a chance of kicking on from 4th with some good signings.

The hard thing is that Arsenal fans have extremely high ticket prices and are competing in a league with sugar daddies.

It hasn't been perfect execution but Wenger has kept Arsenal in a good position. The danger is failure to qualify for CL and the rot that would follow. That is my view from a non Gooner POV

You know there was a time when Chelsea came in, started being moneybags Chelsea, spending left right and centre, Wages shot up to over 150mil, and when it started, Arsenal were spending around 60mil a year in wages.

The argument of competing with the big boys is valid, but at one stage Chelsea were spending double what we were, in 2010 Arsenal spent £125mil while Chelsea spent £190mil, yes it looks silly but its closer comparitively, Utd are only spending £150mil, and still winning title after title in that 8 years. Arsenal have apparently spent £143 mil last season, putting us within shooting distance of Utd wages wise(hard to tell how much there's went up in comparison). Chelsea's potentially/supposedly came down though once CL bonus's and the like are factored in it probably didn't in the end.

Arsenal are closing the gap in wage spending, but going backwards in terms of squad quality. When you then look at Chelsea's squad, Malouda, Kalou, Ferreira, and add in the fact that they pay guys 150k a week, while we pay people 80-100k a week max, and that was 3-4 players, you realise we are wasting money hand over fist on the lesser players and a HUGE squad.

Chelsea have a tiny squad all highly paid with not much depth, not much youth.

We've decreased the spending difference, while INCREASING the gap between us and those spending more, hence doing worse.

Sorry but a team spending £143mil in wages, and getting 1 point more than a team spending £90mil in wages... isn't successful. As of this season essentially the top 4 wage spenders in the league will be spending £150-200mil, everyone else will be spending sub £100mil... being top 4 is the BARE MINIMUM we can achieve without failing quite badly. A team spending £150mil shouldn't need a team spending 35% less to screw up the second half of their season.

As for profitability and getting in players, 100's of players move to non champ league clubs, Michu has been simply amazing this season... he both moved to a non champs league club, for next to nothing, and gets paid probably a quarter of what Santi gets.

You don't need the champs league to attract good players, you need a keen eye for who is a good player, and to go out and get them. I'd have taken Michu over Santi, saved us what 15mil or so and 40-60k a week.

If we spent £60mil less last year on wages, and came 5th, the team would have made MORE money.

DM you're absolutely right. I think the difference is that you see underperformance (which you have correctly assessed in existing; and I won't try and analyse the why's and wherefores of why those wages are so high) I see Arsenal being in a good position to push forward and challenge for the title with a few good signings.

As long as Arsenal has CL, it will have a chance of challenging for the title again despite its poor efficiency. Obviously that sucks if you are paying such a premium for a season ticket and see your cash being frittered away.

Don't pay everyone a higher than average wage? It makes sense to pay the most to those that perform well, and everyone else gets significantly less until proven.

Or perhaps that's too logical

****ing hell, I didn't think it was possible to put in a worse performance than we did v Fulham but we managed it today in the 2nd half.
There was honestly nothing worthy of the name of football going on.
Thank God for Arsenal otherwise I'd be really sad tonight.

Rusian wet farts.
