Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1 - 3rd December 2012]

It's foootball for **** sake. There are going to be tackles, saying 'I dive to protect myself' is no less a **** excuse than anyone else.

He dives, it's simple. Spurs fans seem unable to accept anything bad about their golden boy Bale.

He doesn't get anywhere near jumped upon by media/fans than the likes of Suarez/Ronaldo/Drogba etc did, which is stupid because he's absolutely dreadful for diving.
Obviously got your "I'm not listening hat on" This ground has already been covered no?

Where do any Spurs fans say Bale doesn't dive? What we're saying is Suarez is unliked for other reasons, not JUST because he dives.... do you see?

Yes, Bale does dive* but he doesn't:

- Commit deliberate handball on a regular basis
- Spend all game harassing the referee
- Bite chunks out of his opponent's ear

(* Usually to protect himself. You'd duck out the way if someone tried to punch you, wouldn't you?)

Not sure a few handballs is a regular basis

Also I'm not sure where you're from but we don't have ears growing out our shoulders

Yes I would duck away from a punch, I wouldn't five star frogsplash the ground to avoid it though

The golfclap was not great but he was actually fouled and it was a lolworthy decision to book him for diving; this might be rosetinted but I dont think golfclapping is as bad as getting in someone's face and screaming at them or flopping around on the floor wailing. Sarcasm seems like a more mature response to stupidity than screaming.

Do Liverpool fans seriously think that Bale is as bad as Suarez?

Bad meaning unpalatable in terms of ethics, general conduct etc.

Because he drives to training?

It was a sarcastic comment about that, based on Snax's ridiculous defense of Bale in midweek that started the debate off. Bale's a cheat but it seems as if some people (Snax) can't accept it.

The reason the other players got slaughtered is because they acted like petulant children on the pitch. Drogba, Suarez and Ronaldo all feigned inury, pulled contorted faces and scream at the ref. Them diving was part of a package of undesirable behaviour on the pitch, Bale does none of that

Are you off your head or on the wind up now? Bale doesn't act like a petulant child? He didn't applaud the ref for booking him yesterday? He doesn't feign injury? (:D) He's not in the refs face trying to get players sent off every other week?

Pretty much in that we are going backwards in terms of winning things. The simple fact is that the fans aren't just happy with CL qualification every yr and it's starting to show.

As much as I hate saying it, as I want Arsenal to win things...im hoping that we do not qualify for CL...it's the only way this ****ING Arsenal board and Wenger will do something about the mess we are in. Like I said we are going backwards in terms of success and seeing as we fans pay stupidly high prices for tickets. It's just not on and no longer can the board justify the high prices.

I'm just fed up of the way things are going, it's getting worse rather than better :/.
Do u want wenger out?

This is where people are just completely mistaken, of those players NONE were bad before they joined, and all were brilliant for Arsenal straight away, simple as that.

EDIT;- for the record, Petit captained a top side and played 222 games for Monaco. Gilberto, world cup, best DM in the world, mudane, no, Veira was signed for 3.5mil from Milan after, afaik transfering there then having a bad injury and was stuck in the reserves, however 3.5mil in 96 suggests the potential. Overmars had won a European cup and scored 36 goals for Ajax, only missed out on the 96 euros due to a serious injury. Freddie had interest from a bunch of teams before we signed him, he wasn't some unknown Wenger plucked from nowhere, he was a top player who hadn't moved from his home nation that loads of teams tried to sign.

A player doesn't join and in three training sessions turn a career around, nor do they go from terrible to brilliant in 3 months, or a year. Wenger has taken almost no "youth" players, turned them into great ones then they join the team and have success. He takes undervalued players, who should be being played more, and bought them cheap then used them straight away.

Henry for instance was a striker his entire youth career, one of the best scoring records as a kid through every level... Wenger at Monaco said, "go play on the wing", sound familiar, and a player who was already playing and scoring, got worse, but was "in the system" by that point, known and people thought had loads of potential. He wasn't a winger, he isn't today, he never was, the only thing Wenger did to "fix" him was reverse HIS OWN DECISION at Monaco to turn him into a winger, and hey presto the striker he was before Wenger meddled with him... was once again the best striker on the planet.

Gilberto WON THE DAMN WORLD CUP before he ever played a game for Arsenal, takes unknowns and makes them better..... lol. Gilberto was both old, and very much the final player we knew before he joined Arsenal, long before he joined Arsenal.

More importantly, Wenger has a HISTORY of buying undervalued players who were simply being misused or ignored by their current managers, he does not have a "present" doing this, he hasn't done this for donkeys years.

Wenger 1, was a great manager, I won't be sorry to see him go, because he left 8 years ago, Wenger 2... is the type of manager he used to buy players who were being misused off. 8 years ago Wenger would have bought Vela from a club who refused to play him, and got a 15 goal a season 5-10 assist winger/striker on the cheap. Currently Wenger is the manager who misuses the player, loses him on the cheap while overpaying for crap. Wenger 2 I'll be happy to see go, even if it was because Wenger 1 suddenly appeared from nowhere..... The current Wenger does everything wrong that the old Wenger got right, its like two entirely different managers in all honesty.
Saying u want wenger out will label u a fickle fan .

I don't think he is a cheat.

I am genuinely surprised that there are any role models in football. I am even more surprised that Spurs seems to have quite a few of them.

Maybe I am a romantic and you are not; how can you not applaud a player like Bale? It is like hearing Messi likes nothing better than playing his PS3 with some mates to relax. That kind of behavior endears them to me. It is also not a ridiculous defence to highlight his rare and overwhelmingly positive characteristics as a reason to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Edit- maybe I have a different opinion of what cheating is; I think handballing the ball off the line/into the goal is cheating, I think kicking someone in the stomach is cheating, I think trying to intimidate a referee by yelling at him and getting in his face is cheating.

I will absolutely concede that Bale has on the odd occasion cheated- I hate it when he dangles a leg to get a foul (Young is particularly pernicious at this). That part of his game seems to have diminished over the last 12 months. But to label someone a cheat is to imply they are persistent and he is not a persistent cheat.

That nearly had me in tears :p

Bale walking to training doesn't excuse him diving. Equally, I'm not claiming Bale's a horrible person outside of football when I call him a cheat. I don't know him. I could point out that nearly every journalist (and teammate) that's met Suarez claims he's a lovely person. That's not going to stop you thinking what you think of him as a footballer, nor would I expect it to change your opinion.

I'm honestly not too fussed about Bale diving, I just found the whole walking to training stuff funny. And it annoys cm :p
