Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 15th December 2014]

Missed the game today as I was travelling but the bbc commentary made it sound like we somehow played pretty badly and won 3-0? Sounds like De Gea had another blinder :)

I'm astounded he can say that to Mignolet yet let loverboy Lovren get away with the amount of mistakes he has. Rodgers has already dug his own grave and he seems intent on building the coffin as well.

Jesus christ, the amount of people putting so much of the weight of that manu win due to de gea's saves, if he didn't make most of them he'd be ****ing garbage, our finishing was ****e, our defending was ****, our pressing was good first half and some nice passing to get in behind that defence (albeit garbage not as bad as ours.)

Shows how important decent fowards are, two decent chances and two simple goals even if you are getting outdone in the other phases off the game.

Can see Brendan being in big trouble now, not that I agree with it but very rarely does a manager who hasn't been somewhere for a very long time recover from this.

He's been in trouble for a while but I don't agree with the people who think Suarez was the only reason we did so well last year so he deserves the entire season to turn things round as far as I'm concerned. I'm not entirely sure he'll get that long though.

Its entirely of his own making though, firstly with the loss of Suarez he reverts back the formation that he used in his for 5 months with us (when we were ****), secondly he continualy plays players that are making mistakes left, right and centre and players that are out of form or not suited to the positions he puts them in. Third, our summer transfers.

And last but not least he has just chucked a young keeper under the bus and put the blame for our league position squarely on his shoulders, how very Hodgeson of him.

He should resign, its going to get a lot worse with him here this season.

Rodgers treating mignolet that way is disgusting yet Lovren etc who makes far worse mistakes goes unpunished yet constantly choosen epic fail

Well actually Lovren did get dropped for a while (and somehow came back in lol, maybe his method is drop for a bit and let them back in and hope for improvement?).

Anyway dropping a CB or anyone else for that matter is obviously much less cared about than a keeper, I would have no problem with Mignolet dropped it wasn't for this game and when he was actually at his worst and not for Brad 'I'll ****ing dive two seconds before the shot' Jones.

Give Gerrard and Sterling the night off and play a similar team to the one below and I think we'll win.

------------Mignolet------------
Mankini-Skrtel-Toure-Moreno
-------------Lucas-------------
-Henderson-Coutino-Lallana-
------Balotelli--Lambert------

Got to hand it to Van Gaal. He is getting the results now and i would be more than happy with third after last season.

Yes, it was similar to our other recent performances.

Not at all helped by a changing defence every game, it doesn't take much to rock the confidence of our defenders. However, our quality strikers are doing their job, being clinical and taking chances when we get them.

When we get all our injured players back (without losing too many others first), we should look in pretty good shape, but we'll need a higher quality of defender to start thinking about a title challenge. I think Rojo/Jones and maybe even Smalling could perform well alongside a world class defender. Evans was reasonably good at one time but he looks very poor lately.

We had very little pace in the team aside from Wilson (who is quick but not what I'd call super fast), with Di Maria on the counter we could have done a lot more damage to Liverpool. Blind would have helped keep the ball too.

I'm also not particularly impressed that Liverpool had so much of the ball either, they didn't play a striker and packed out the midfield, we tried to keep to a more offensive formation a lot of the time.

Great result though, a loss here would have been a setback. And you can see, defensive frailties aside, the team are working very hard for each other and the manager and we didn't get any of that under Moyes.

A long way to go though. It'd be nice if we could get a player or two in January to really solidify our top four position.

A lot of the press are making out Utd's defence is shambolic etc. It's a strange one as clearly changing all them players over the summer made it difficult and the ones who were left had to adapt to a new system and 'Philosophy'

For all of the changes in personell, we have the 3rd best defensive record in the Prem at the moment. I think its more about our ball retention than anything else. It doesn't come as any suprise either that this little run of six on the bounce coincides with Carrick being back. The other thing is that we do seem to set out to play on the counter attack. Which by it's very nature would suggest the opposition would have more posession.

Today I dont think we was as poor as people made out. No world beaters but not bad either. The team is screaming out though for somebody in the middle of the park to knit it all together.

Agree as well with getting Di Maria and Blind back.

Just some random musings on Utd after today

It's way he has announced dropping him saying indefinitely is just disrespectful, I know dropping sterling worked last time so your right maybe that's his plan

You guys rate Blind then? I'd much prefer Carrick there when everyone is back fit, he uses the ball much better, I don't think Blind looks fantastic defensively either really.

It's a shame Herrera hasn't been started in the middle more, I think he works well just controlling possession and shifting the ball.

Mata has been very odd recently, he doesn't seem to 'do' much but he's scored and assisted loads.
