Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 15th December 2014]

I think this will be a good game. Liverpool do tend to play reasonably well against us usually so I doubt it will be as simple as some are suggesting. Yet again we have a bit of an unbalanced squad to pick from but hopefully Wilson can start scoring some goals. He looks like a top player for the future so scoring a few goals would do his confidence no end of good.

I wonder if Rojo has been injured, not heard of him being injured in the press. It's a shame he played very well in both the Hull and Stoke game him and Smalling looked like a great pairing at CB really commanding.
I understand Wilson playing tbh, absolutely fantastic against Stoke, really quick on the break and definitely has a goal coming gets back and creates chances. Falcao's fitness must still be an issue for a full 90 minutes.
I must say I trust Van Gaal's judgement and feel much more positive going into this game than last year with that famous Moyes' quote.

To be fair to Moyes, at the time he was 100% correct but you never ever say that about another team when you are United manager. It was the perfect encapsulation of his attitude towards managing us though.

I thought Rafael was back, he's not even on the bench

Being free of injury and capable of performing in an emergency isn't the same as being fit for a couple of weeks, being stronger, being fitter and being less likely to get reinjured.

Rushing Rafael back would be a very stupid move, as would rushing Falcao or RVP back from injury.

Utd do badly need an RB though, Rafael is far far too fragile and a bit brain dead, Valencia is just lolworthy.

It is worth thinking about though that everyone reacts differently to training. LVG has been accused of training really hard which injures more players, but there is the potential that some players will be injured more frequently for a period of time before training harder leaves them stronger in general and they stop getting injured as much as they did before. I expect that to happen for some players but I also expect some to just get worse.

If one of Jones/Smalling/Rafael becomes reliable it would help a lot but really Utd need to buy a RB and sell Valencia, keep Rafael as back up though if his fitness doesn't improve look to sell him for a reliable replacement longer term.

Liverpool, odd, Kolo was really good against Real and was well I would say Liverpool's least bad defender by a large margin in other games, why was he dropped rather than SKrtel or frankly Johnson.

Don't forget that Kolo played DM and RB for Arsenal, he's a marauding player who is actually pretty good getting forward, power and strength, not a massive amount of skill dribbling but makes good runs and has good movement.

Liverpool should certainly think about trying him at RB or as a DM considering their alternatives aren't good.
