For me its not the result that has me so frustrated, its another summer of the same old crap.
If we'd have come out today having signed Mustafi, Xhaka, Vardy and Mikhataryan and got porked 4-0 I wouldn't be half as frustrated. We need to get our business done in the transfer market, and we're not capable of doing that it seems - and unless we can change that we're going to fall further behind. Vardy and Mikhi didn't want to come to us, fair enough, we tried... but they're not the only players out there that can play in those roles, if we are unable to get them then we need to be bidding elsewhere, it is not acceptable to start another season 2 or 3 players short of what you'd consider we need to challenge for the title.
If we'd have gone out and spent money the whole atmosphere around the club would be different right now, Arsenal fans wouldn't have that "same stuff, different day" feeling, the atmosphere at the Emirates wouldn't be half as toxic as for once we could say that the club has made a real effort to plug the gaps in the squad. Instead we're all filled with dread, because chances are that come the end of the transfer window we're going to be stuck with the same team that we have now, and we're in for another season of doing nothing.
Too often we get the excuse that the players are not available, or we can't get the business done - yet everybody else has managed it. United have picked up some top players, City have spent a fortune, Liverpool have spent well to address the gaps in their team and once again we haven't. If we do not have the negotiators capable of bringing in the players we need then get rid of them... or is it that the money is not there? If the money is not there then that needs to be leaked out - but I personally don't see how we can be short of money, we've had £150m allegedly in the bank for years now, and then there was this years TV deal. if the money isn't there its because Kroenke doesn't want to spend it, and if that's the case somebody close to the club needs to come out and state that so instead of getting on the back of the manager we can have a pop at the owner for lining his pockets.
I'm not asking for Arsenal to spend £150m like United and City have done, we don't have the finances to be able to match that sort of expenditure - but given the TV deal and the underinvestment in recent years £75m ~ £90m would have done the job and seen me happy.
We have too many squad players, not enough stars, and once again we are lacking in key areas with absolutely no sign of our weaknesses being addressed, yet we still pay the highest ticket prices in the league.
