Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 17th August 2016]

Kos and Ozil have hardly had a rest though since August last year, pretty much every PL and CL match i think. Giroud broke his ankle or something and was out for 2/3 months. It could be the reason they've been allowed an extended rest. I don't know obviously, but it could be the reason

As Redknapp said on Sky, give them a rest in a few weeks once your injury situation has cleared up. Particularly Kos, given the problems they had at CB it was mad to not select him.

They aren't hidden though. The people above Wenger don't want to spend the extra money it takes to try and dominate on every front.

Wenger has been a spin doctor for many many years tho.

Just listen to this 1 min clip on Wenger and spending.

"Since the start of the transfer season, you will see not a lot happened" According to Mr Wenger.

Is he living under a bush?

It completely flies in the face of the very first sentence the reporter opens with.

Yea, i suppose the positive out of playing the younger guys is they didn't do too bad quite actually considering they were playing Liverpool. Chamber is 21 and Holding is 20, i know they conceded 4 goals but 1 was a world class freekick and the other 2 were quality goals as well. At least it gets them playing together, throw them in at the deep end n whatnot. Didn't get the result but Wenger would have learnt a lot with those 2 playing. 1st game of the season as well, Arsenal don't need to get their knickers in a twist.

He's been politcal though isn't he, i would assume anyway. If he had an open cheque book like UTD this summer, he would obviously be splashing down on 40m players left, right and centre

without a striker and CB, I would be genuinely worried about top 4 if I was an Arsenal fan.

As much as it pains me to say, I don't want a top 4 spot and it wouldn't really bother me if we didn't get it this season. In fact if we don't make anymore signings this summer I don't think we will get top 4 this.

And maybe that's a good thing, maybe to show Wenger and the board that things have changed because everyone else around us have strengthened other than us.

Last yr I was so hoping spuds would end up on top of us but sadly it didn't happen and we got 2nd.

It's not a great start but the goals scored against us were very good. We had a defensive pairing that have only played a handful of games and we were missing three first team starters.

Let's see where we are after the next five or six before we concede against spurs ;)

Funny you didn't sound too sad when you pipped them :D

People have been saying the above for years though and he still manages fourth. I think he protects the club, they aren't going to give him the sums of money the fans want or think should be spent and he puts up with it. They reward him with new deals.

When he goes a new manager will get a portion of cash as promised for one window and then he too will find the money dries up. Until the ownership is sorted out I don't think you can expect much more.

Well i was at the emirates yesterday and as i was walking out, a load of fans were shouting wenger out.

im in the wenger out crew myself as i thought it was embarrassing losing out on the title to Leicester last season.

It really doesnt matter who we buy because as long as wenger is in charge. our tactics and mental strength will cost us this season again.

As i said before, it aint the sums that are the problem(how much did Leicsters team cost again?) Its the mentality and tactics of wengers team thats the problem

Holding and Chambers looked decent enough, give them a run. A good young English CB pairing would do wonders for the club.

Lack of a decent striker has to be a worry though, undoubtedly Wenger will say you are fine though :p

Holding and Chambers looked decent enough?

Did they? Even in the first half when we played rubbish you could see that it was only a matter of time before we cut them open. They may well go on to be decent CB's and a decent partnership but they're far too inexperienced for a club that wants to challenge at the top of the table.

Prior to the game I'd have started with Origi up front to test them physically but Firmino in the false 9 position turned out exactly the correct way to go. They didn't know how to defend with nobody right up against them and when we upped our game in the 2nd half they were found wanting.

If anything they should be playing in the capital cup as that's a competition that we don't take seriously enough. Wenger tends to use those games for blooding in the youngsters.

As I said in one of my earlier posts, it was a baptism of fire for the pair of them. Hopefully they will have learned from their mistakes and will get better. But playing them against the big teams won't help as I can see them getting torn apart which happened yesterday.

I think everyone and their dog want Wenger to sign a striker lol. The question is will it happen...the wait goes on.

Not entirely sure the free kick was fully deserved, but no-one was ever going to save that Coutinho kick, way too high for the wall to get to it, and curving perfectly right into the upper corner for any gk to reach it (without leaving the other side of his goal unprotectect anyway). Absolutely amazing to watch.

It was commical to see how quickly Arsenal completely fell apart in that 20-30 minute period, Liverpool really should have scored one or two more in that part fo the game. Full credit to Liverpool, some of their movement and play was fabulous, but Arsenal didnt really help themselves either.

As soon as Coutinho went off, it really showed how important he is to Liverpool, the attacking threat disappeared practically immediately. Mane did well for his goal but was a little lucky as well imo

Really thought Arsenal were most likely to score at the end, and maybe they deserved a 4th but marginally. Defenders and gk's were commical from both sides
