This City formation is mental. If you're not going to play with fill backs don't just put the same players somewhere else. Sagna and Clichy as ball playing advanced midfielders is pointless.

It's strange but they do partly play as fullbacks though, they're just expected to step into midfield when you've got the ball. It is much easier with Lahm than Clichy though.

It just seems to throw the whole balance off and congest the middle which generally has 10 players in already. They'll get battered by a half decent team playing like this.

Yea, it's going to take time for City to get it right. You can see watching them today that they're going to have problems against better sides while they're learning.

Because Sunderland were pinning City back prior to Defoe coming off? :confused:

Whether Defoe would have made any contribution or not in the last few minutes, there was no change in initiative at all. The pattern of play didn't change from the first to last minute in fact - City were always on the front foot with Sunderland looking to nick something.
