Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 15th August 2011]

Didn't see it but the text coms I was using gave us the following :
Reina - 5. Nothing to do
Flannagan - 6. Not his best game, poor in the second half
Carragher - 6. Solid but too many aimless balls down field
Agger - 5. Looked shaky all afternoon
Enrique - 6. Great first half, poor second
Henderson - 5. Did nothing wrong, but did nothing well either
Lucas - 6. Did his duty recycling possession well
Adam - 6. Good first half buy liability with defensive responsibility. Set pieces were poor by his standards
Downing - 7. Dangerous cutting in from the right
Suarez - 7. Good goal, worked hard. A penalty to forget however
Carroll - 4. Did nothing great. Knockdowns were aimless and clearly forgot his scoring boots (or cap in this case).

Agger was our best defender and 4 would flatter Flannagan let alone 6. To put it bluntly, Dalglish made a mistake starting him and a bigger mistake not subbing him when it became obvious he had fallen to pieces and would likely cost us.

It was really surprising to see him start ahead of Kelly. Not sure the thinking behind it unless Kelly wasn't 100% fit.

As I said I never watched it .. Just what's on the text comms
Also suggests ref had a shocker, and Sunderland + dive showed up a lot. Gonna watch it tonight and see myself though

This cost us the game, was painful to watch, why the **** wasn't Richardson sent off and Carrolls goal disallowed for being bigger than the guy who fell over.

Wes Brown was annoyingly decent, Suarez clearly not fit nor Lucas really.

Feels just like it's about to happen all over again.

Pleased with new signings though.

Hopefully we'll see an early goal, a big win and I'll look stupid come 4.45pm

With my club affiliation Im quite glad you arent looling stupid about now .....however;

In the last 6 months (by my reckoning so I appoligise if this is out) - Liverpool have replaced 6 of the starters on show today - 4 of which this is their first competitve game (one of which arrived yesterday for **** sake lol) I dont know about Flannigan has he come up from your U18 squad or something? Including the latter thats 5/11 players who have never played a competitive game together (Havent really seen the subs so Im ignoring them so far)......(sorry edited 7 >>>5 )

With that many changes its always going to take time to get them working together. Yes 1st few weeks / games might be shakey but Im sure they will adapt reasonably to play together.

Was surprised Saurez was subbed due to fitness quite so quickly - has he been injured or something and missed pre-season? I would have thought he would be on song quite soon, and even with everyone else as they were Liverpool could be pretty frightening (in a bad way for the other 19 teams lol)

Not sure about Sunderland diving but there were lots of very soft free-kicks given for both sides which didn't help our performance in the second half. The officials made some very poor decisions though; Richardson and Cattermole both should have gone in the first half and Carroll's goal should have stood.

Richardson at left back? Presume its the same (very average) winger that Utd sold to them a few years ago lol - that should have been a bonus point to Liverpool to start with lol

Yep. Not overly worried by him, apart from the game against Newcastle last season when Gutierrez tore him a new one he's been pretty sound. Just looked nervous in the second half and started making schoolboy errors which comes down to age and experience. Certainly something Kenny should've acted on though before it was too late.

As for Suarez, he didn't have a pre-season due to his performances at the Copa Amercia but he looked fantastic until he tired. Just annoying that we didn't have anyone to replace him given we've spent over 100 million.

Managed to catch most of the Wigan-Norwich game. Happy with a point for the Canaries - we were a bit nervous in defence, particularly in the first half. De Laet's mistake leading to the penalty was a downer, but at least we kept the spirit up. He made up somewhat towards the end of the game with a great block to help us keep hold of a point. Hoolahan and Bennet looking good for us.

Bruce has a fantastic record at Anfield IIRC from him Birmingham, Wigan & now Sunderland days he's only ever lost once there

Nice to hear Wes had a good game, when fit a very very good natural defender

Another win for Brighton today. Away at Portsmouth:D

Craig Mackail-Smith got his first goal as well. All the indications are that he wil be a very good signing indeed.

hmm, is it too early to call my bet of Brighton winning the league safe?

ok fair enough about Flannigan

Oh of course I should have thought about the CA - even so, Im still surprised how unfit he is but hey ho, very temporary problem.

Frightening how much players in general cost whether its £50+m for 3 at OT, or £100+m for 7 or so at Anfield

Nice to hear Wes had a good game, when fit a very very good natural defender

And when he doesnt argue/swear at the boss lol

Norwich played well, really well, Wigan should have won, they had enough chances but just cant finish clinically, Moses was superb and beat his maker time and time again, sloppy goal to concede.

Its going to be a long hard season again.
