Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 17th September 2014]

It's QPR, at Old Trafford, and you've just bought around £150m worth of talent not to mention adding Falcao.
No excuses :p

if qpr play 3 at the back with stegosaurus in the centre, expect there to be a mauling.

Not to mention that most of the players who have played more than a single full game for Utd are still missing.....but dont fret its always the headline grabbing numbers that say the whole story.......like the ~£70m splurged on Torres (his initial transfer and his rumoured payoff)

Have we actually got any players back from injury, or just added to the list?

Shaw is rumoured to be back , some are saying Raf and Herrera might also be but not sure.

What's Torres's cost got to do with Man.U's current plight and them playing QPR at home in a game they should win especially considering the outlay they've just had?:p

Cost isn't always indicative of performance. Hopefully it is in this case :)

Need time to gel  he's already said (many times) that the club will not be rebuilt in the space of one month or even a year.

If Man Utd dont start getting results fast, LvG will be fired.
Unfortunately, this is how football is these days.
Gone are they days when you could spend £150M and fail to break into the top 4 and have a manager keep his job.

Chelsea, Man City, Real Madrid, Barca, PSG, Juventus, amongst a bunch of other top clubs all operate in this way.

I believe that Ed Woodward and LvG's target this year is top 3.

Finishing outside the top 4 this year will be complete and utter failure.

i'm not trying to pigeon this but they will. qpr's back line was a complete calamity against spurs. even when they changed things second half it still looked like championship stuff.

united don't need to worry about conceding either cos qpr don't know where the goal is. if united's attack hit's top gear it could be 4-0 by half time.

Arsenal: Szczesny, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Flamini, Wilshere, Ramsey, Alexis, Ozil, Welbeck

Man City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany (C), Demichelis, Clichy, Fernandinho, Lampard, Navas, Silva, Milner, Aguero

Welbeck starts for Arsenal, and Lampard for City :o

Watching Lampard in a City shirt is going to be horrible! :( Not City's strongest team though. Think Arsenal could nick it.

Glad they are playing Lampard.

Even more glad that Welbeck is on for Arsenal. I agree with Ian Wright, i hope Welbeck does well so he can rightly stick two fingers up at Van Gaal.

I am not even a Welbeck fan at that :p

Downside for me... Forgot this match was on and got to go out in not long :(

I think they'll give him time. I certainly hope so, else it's the start of a spiral.

They wont give him more than 1 year to prove himself. And it wont be the start of any spiral. All top clubs are results driven and Man Utd is no different. This strategy works for Bayern, Barca, Madrid, Man City, Chelsea and it will also work for Man Utd.
Just as we saw last year, failure at Man Utd, is intolerable.

At any top club, if a manager spends £150M (a truly mind-boggling amount of money), results are expected almost immediately. LvG has stated that he needs a few months. E.Woodward has stated that the target this year is 3rd. Man Utd are the 3rd biggest club in the World and their aims/targets should befit this.

Sometimes I wonder if fans understand just how big Man Utd are. They dwarf all other clubs in the premiership. By market value, Man Utd are worth more than double the next biggest club (Arsenal). That;s how big Man Utd. In the World, only Barca and R.Madrid are bigger.

5th place or lower, after spending £150M (which is HUGE) at any club would be grounds for dismissing the manager. At Man Utd, LvG may get lynched!

I expect 4th place as a bare minimum.
3rd place, after spending £150M (and more money available if necessary), should be expected.

and the donkey strikes early. one on one, gifted a chance, or another great throughball from Silva depending on how you look at it.

EDIT:- the replay they just showed had a hint of deflection in that shot, as in Welbeck shot wide and the deflection took it to the post.

Ramsey shooting from 25 yards or so twice, neither remotely threatening. He became pretty deadly inside the box but last year he was as in previous years absolutely awful at shooting from range. Yes he scored 1 maybe 2 last year but that was from a lot of shots the majority being woeful. He's getting a bit up himself, he's trying things he shouldn't, ignoring good passes to shoot from way outside the box because he suddenly thinks he can't miss. Several games he's tried absurd shots and not looked dangerous from them as well.

He's not doing what made him so effective last year, driving into the box and playing the one two's. Instead he's taking early shots for no reason.
