Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 17th Jan 2012]

well we were scuppered by the officials again but not good enough from us tbh. ok we were tiered from mid week and wolves are an awful crowd you out team but adebayor needs to step up if we're going to use him as a lone striker

WIMBLEDON WIN!

First win since October!

Billy Knott (on loan from Sunderland) sounds like a great talent, caused a lot of problems until he went off.

Pity Sunderland couldn't put that chance away at the end, draws all around would have been great but hopefully we can beat Swansea and keep the upward climb going.

Do do do! Top of the league :D (admittedly the champ so most people don't care right now)

Still very pleased, even if its the first away win iv missed this season (£27 plus £20 on the train to notts in the cold didn't seem worth it)

I'm not sure if we set-up the way we did because we're playing Stoke or because those were the only available/fit players but it didn't work. I can only assume that the idea was to get the ball into Kuyt and then have Gerrard, Henderson and Downing running off of him but they failed to make the runs. Too often Kuyt dropped deep and laid the ball off, only for the cross to come into the box and nobody to be there.

We improved a bit in the 2nd half when Carroll came on and managed to pin Stoke back but too often the delivery into the box was good enough. I thought we had a couple of decent shouts for pens (Woodgate on Kuyt in particular) but we should have done far better than we did.
More I see of Enrique the more I think he could be playing for Barcelona or Madrid.....

As good as he's been, he couldn't play for Barca. The one thing with him that frustrates the life out of me is his need to take 1000 touches of the ball before passing it. He slows down our attacks everytime he gets the ball.

He's a far better player than Abidal and Maxwell or whoever they've got at left back. One of the few high points in an awful season so far.

Any chance that Liverpool can get Ian rush to come out of retirement?

Our inability to find the net is depressing.

He's a big movie star now, was in Hustle last night. Digger's back with us, perhaps he could play instead of Downing. Digger > Downing, Molby > Adams, Sean Dundee > Carroll.

On the whole he's been excellent but going forward he's frustrating. We saw towards the end of the game that he can just drive past players but all too often he'll get the ball, take a few touches before deciding what to do. That and his unwillingness to make overlapping runs (as often as he should) frustrates me.

Defensively he's very strong (although his need to take so many touches sometimes worries me defensively too) and technically he's excellent on the ball. It's his decision making that's stopping him being a great player imo.
