Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 17th Jan 2012]

So nice to play with wingers on the wing and midfielders in midfield. Do that and we dominate the match completely. If Rooney had been on (his game) we could have had more.

0-0 FT

Stoke played for the draw and didn't need to get out of 1st gear to earn it. Massively disillusioned with the level of management being shown this season. Poor signings, poor tactics and poor substitutions.

I thought Liverpools formation helped us. What is the thinking with 5 at the back when we only have 1 up front? Why take a winger off when you bring Carrol on? For all the posession Liverpool had Sorenson did not have to do much at all.

We didn't play 5 at the back though, did we? Johnson and Enrique were midfielders and even Skrtel spent most of the time playing as a fullback. Playing with 3 at the back and wingbacks wasn't an issue for me; it allowed us to get an extra CB in the side to help at set-plays and we only ever had 2 men back at one time when we were attacking.

The issue for me was the way our midfield and attack lined-up. With no Maxi and Bellamy not fit enough to start 3 games in 8 days, I'd have started Carroll alongside Kuyt or alternatively, Carroll instead of Kuyt. Kuyt's not either big enough or quick enough to play up front on his own effectively without a lot of support from midfield and for one reason or another, he didn't get that support today.

15 shots, 1 on target.

Dalglish is paying the price for putting all of his eggs in the Carroll/Downing basket. Said at the start of the season if that partnership doesn't work and Suarez went missing for any period of time we were in trouble because we have little pace or creativity without him.

They are still defenders though. Surely Liverpool have better players to attack with than defenders pushing up. After seeing how Liverpool played at Stoke this season I was expecting a straight forward defeat today so I am delighted with the point but I think Dalglish played a big part in us getting that point

Maxi's injured, Suarez's suspended and Bellamy can't start 3 games in a week. Given what was available to us and the type of fullbacks Enrique and Johnon are, playing them as wingbacks wasn't an issue.

For anyone curious:

MOTD tonight @2220: 1. Spurs/Wolves, 2. Man U/Bolton, 3. B'burn/Ful, 4. Chel/Sund, 5. WBA/Nor, 6. Villa/Eve, 7. Liv/Stoke.

Maybe playing our 35million pound striker might have made sense.

2010/11 Blackpool 21 games 28 points.
2011/12 Norwich 21 games 28 points.

What do we reckon, Norwich got enough to not be another Blackpool/Hull? I cant see them going down tbh, Lambert looks a very astute manager
